A few of us are going to pedal over to Shepperton this Sunday - I'm desperate to get in that lake!

We'll be cycling at a nice leisurely pace and hang around the lake for mandatory coffee and cake afterwards before pedalling back.

Probably meet at the Lido around 8am if that suits...

Let me know if you're keen to join, the more the merrier :-).

Sam and I are already heading over so we will join forces. We are not coming back though. Ever.

Ha... Can I stay there with you?!

I'm coming! See you at the lido at 8

I got you Lisa,, im going..you are safe

I'm keen to go too, although may take the train, depending on whether I need to do a long run when I get back (which depends on how training goes this week!). If I cycle, I'll probably meet you there, or at Richmond Park, as the Lido is a bit out of the way for me.

I'm coming too!! Lets hope the rain stays away for the cycling bit!

Hi there, I am keen to come but would like to combine the tour with a longer cycle ride. Do you think it makes sense to come out there in the morning, go swimming and then set out for a 100+km tour through the Surrey Hills? Or finish the ride at the lake and go for a swim after cycling? Anybody interested?

I think the Windsor route is good from Shepperton. You might find it easiest to cycle most of the route before the swim as your wetsuit will be heavier afterwards and the 30km home is enough with it

also the lake shuts at 11am ish ??

You could also make it easier for yourself by using one of the wetsuits you can hire at the lake. I did that once and it was only a fiver. Then all you need to bring is goggles and a hat - it's a lot easier than trying to ride weighed down by a wetsuit you have swam in - so you enjoy riding post swim much more.

Doing a swim and then ride out into the Surrey hills would be a significant challenge. The ride there and back can often be enough of a challenge if you do it flat out. But if you are determined to go to the Surrey hills there is no reason not to do it - it would be an excellent long course training session - but it's a few weeks before I could try anything like that though.

Alternatively you could also do a few laps of Richmond Park on the way back as almost inevitably you come back that way. Might be a bit more manageable? And you might get more volunteers for company?

Yey so pleased so many people are up for it!

Tobias, I'd maybe swim first cos as Dave says the lake closes at 11! Swim without a wetsuit?!!

Thanks for all the good advice, it's good to know that it closes at 11 - I was already wondering why people are so keen to leave that early on a Sunday morning ;).

Swimming first seems to be the only option, then.  How "warm" is the lake water at the moment? If it is above 16°C I might consider swimming without...

The Richmond Park Laps suggestion is also a good last resort, but I would really like to benefit from the fact that I am out of the city anyways. We can do a shorter tour if you want, Tony, I am flexible distance wise!
