Hello,

I would be keen to swim at Shepperton on Sunday and was wondering if anyway would like to join? Would quite like to cycle there, so if someone knows the way that would be amazing. Also not sure with Prudential ride on Sunday if this route will be effected or not?

Cheers.

Agree with Paul - our normal route crosses the course at least four times - it will be a lot easier to take the train this Sunday

I might do Leybourne Lake in Kent this weekend 32 mile ( roughly cycling ) just need to work out a route :-/

I use that lake sometimes Paul - it is a very good size and generally clean. The people who run it are also very friendly and it is possible to get there by bike. But you do have to pass a swim test more formal than Shepperton's before you can take part in swimming and, when I did it, you had to go at a special time (and pay quite a bit of money I seem to remember).

Also there is a submerged fibre glass enormous fish - which divers have to find as part of their training - they don't tell you about it but wait to see you jump out of the water like a salmon when it looms through the murk as you are swimming along ;-)

Isn't there another open water venue near Stoke Newington as well?

Yep - West Reservoir. http://www.better.org.uk/leisure/stoke-newington-west-reservoir-centre

I've done a couple of events up there. Is a really cool venue and well worth checking out. Again I think you need to do some sort of induction first.

Also, there's Godstone - Diver's cove. We cycled past Godstone on Sunday at the foot of the North Downs. I'd be up for it on Sunday.

However, it is a bit pricey at £15 joining fee + swim. But its £5 to swim every other time. 9am to 11am sat & sun.

I'd be up for Sunday cycle/swim too - the Godstone place looks good but would need to meet at lido pretty early (7:30ish to get there for 9:30 for a decent swim)? Keen if others are happy to help navigate!

I'm not sure Leybourne is on this Saturday. There's an Ocean Lake Sprint Triathlon on in the same lake on Saturday (tried to enter but it's sold out) - but open water swimming might be back on Sunday.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I would be up for Godstone swim, although I am not sure I can offer very good navigational skills.

Check the trains for shepperton as last account it was bus replacement for part of the journey.

I would be up for Godstone on Sunday, do a slow warm up ride there. I know the way because I'm a local boy.

I've asked the guys at Diver's Cove and they're happy to have us, just bring a bike lock if you're worried about your bike.

If you over-do it at the lake and don't fancy riding up the downs on the way back, there's frequent trains from Oxted back up to town.

If anyone else is interested let me know - Could meet at lido for 7.30am like Phoebe suggested.

Tom - sounds good - happy to swim or do a longer bike ride as you suggested on the other thread - let me know what the group prefers! 7:30 at the lido is good though.
