Hey Members,

I want to promote one or more Open Water Swim Events this year to increase OW experience and reduce the often encountered reservation to jump into something that isn't a heated pool and where you can't see the bottom. This should be not too long distance or scale-able from beginner to experienced OW swimmer to get as big a participation from members as possible. It could be included in a weekend away with camping and maybe even bike ride or run on the next day, but the main focus is first to find swim events that you know of and maybe have participated in yourselves, and where you had a good experience.

Please send me as many suggestions as possible so that I can choose the ones that fit into the overall Windrush Event Calendar, we don't want to clash with Rory's Cycle Expeditions :)

Thanks a lot,

Tobias, Swim Captain

Look at that beautiful picture! (bump)

Hi

I have entered an event at Western Reservoir at Hackney on the 21st of May:

Also there are several distances at Bewl Water on the 9th of July:

Have swam in events once at both venues, found the organisation good and the people friendly.

Hi Margie,

Was thinking of doing Bewl too, partly as there's a number of kids events on the same day and it could be a good Windrush day out for the Juniors too!  Need to get organised, but the Bewl 5km looks like a good one!

Hi Anna

I haven't signed up for Bewl Water yet as I only found out about the dates recently. I am entered in the Jubilee river swim on the 11th of June, and the Big Welsh swim on the 22nd of July, both events now closed for entry.

I may be tempted by Bewl Water as it is convenient for south London and incredibly beautiful. I am a little worried about doing too much though.

I thought it may be of interest to the club as the events are still open for entry and there is a great cafe. Have added some photos.

Are you doing it Hannah??
Is there any option on open water training?

I am doing the Great North Swim and there are a number of distances available (1/2 mile to 10K).

We're camping for the weekend but spots do get sold out ridiculously early.

Thanks a lot Kim and Margaret, I'll ceck it out!!

We will have an open water season opening event, Angel, and we will certainly have a regular group with experienced and not so experienced OW swimmers heading to Shepperton on a Saturday and/or Sunday morning once the season started (around beginning of may). I can't tell if there will be official OW training sessions yet, but don't worry you won't have to brave it alone when you go for your first swim if you join one of the weekend Shepperton groups, just let the people know it is your first time and I'm sure they'll take good care of you!

Watch this space for Event announcements!
