Hey,

I am new to triathlon and looking forwards to the first (of many!) this Sunday with Windrush.

I wondered if I can get a wind rush tri suit for Sunday's race?

Also what are the best brands of wet suit? I am planning to do Lido swim on Thurs so be keen to get any advice or try one on with you there.

I have signed up to a half iron man and the swim is in a lake in Austria in summer - don't know if short sleeve or long sleeve wet suit would be better?

Thanks

Anna

Hi Anna,

You will not be able to buy a Windrush tri suit before Sunday - next order is in June I think, but maybe one of the women has a spare floating around you can borrow.

In terms of wetsuit I would go and see Ocean Leisure, they are one of our partners and aquathlon sponsors, and we get 10% off with them. They have a variety of brands and make sure that the suit fits you right. Hopefully one Thursday we will have the Orca team at training with some suits to test in the water. I like long sleeves and most triathletes seem to do this too.

Cheers

Hi Anna and welcome

Emily makes a good point in that the most important thing about the wetsuit is that it actually fits you. That's why going to Ocean Leisure near Embankment tube is a good idea - as you can actually try suits on there

It should not be baggy and it's ok if it's a bit snug because when you get in the water the idea is that a thin layer of water between the suit and your skin warms up and keeps you insulated. It also helps the snug fit to work

Some really good swimmers occasionally use sleeveless (as they say it aids shoulder flexibility) but like Emily says nearly all mortal triathletes use sleeves - they are just more versatile.

You probably are aware though that what you are after is a SWIMMING wetsuit - if you try using a surfing wetsuit you will get a very good workout on the swim leg -  they are not designed with the flexibility you need around your shoulders in mind

I don't think it makes too much difference if you pay mega bucks for a top of the range suit - just make sure the suit fits and it is a swimming wetsuit

To borrow a Windrush trisuit you could just reply and see what turns up - you will need to say what size you are but somebody will have one they wont be wearing, so you never know.

and good luck - enjoy Crystal Palace and see you afterwards

Can only reiterate the below. Ocean were great. My only counsel is that it's taken me 3 seasons to actually Learn how to get in and out of my wetsuit without ripping it!

Suggest avoiding a "quick release" zip.

And there's nothing beats a Trisuit and some number tattoos for looking buff!

Lloyd

Thanks so much Emily, going to head down to Ocean Leisure on Friday to get my sexy tri suit for Sunday lol! Hopefully see you Thursday if not Sunday

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome and for all your help. Im going to head down to ocean leisure and try a suit on. Will make sure it is a swimming wetsuit too. Expensive business triathlons, only ran before - I pretty much have a whole new wardrobe.

Hopefully see you Sunday

Hi Anna, you could get away without a trisuit until the Windrush kit order if you already have a pair of tight shorts and sports bra for the swim. You then then just put a t-shirt on for the bike and run bit. Would save you buying one you probably won't wear so much once you have your club one.
