Hello,

I have managed to destroy my frame - sad face.

This gives me a great opportunity to upgrade - happy face!

I was looking at Planet X and Ribble, prefer a carbon frame and would like some sound advice please. Willing to consider alternatives. My old frame was a Cannodale Super 6.

Budget - Not sure, but I don't want to embarrass my Zipps.

Thanks

Robin

How did you manage to destroy the frame?

If I remember right, you also had a SRAM red group set that also won't want to be embarrassed along with your ZIPP Wheels

Nothing else for it - you'll have to buy one of these frames

I wouldn't tell the missus about how much you intend to invest...she could get quite upset
Hey Robin,
Highly recommend going to do a bike fit so you know that the frame fits properly. Not all frames fit equally as they say.... both my road bike and TT ultimately were brands I wasn't expecting or that I'd even heard of.
Swift cycles is good. We also have access to a bike fitter through the club. The price of a fit is insignificant compared to what you are paying for the frame and will make a considerable difference to your decision.
Members opinions are great! But unless that have the same dimensions as you, they don't actually matter.

An unfortunate set of circumstances, leading to a bang, and broken rear fork. I'll expand next I see you.

No! Although my mate from Sram has one and I was hoping he was tired of it. The feelers are out.

I've had a bike fit in the past (Nicola Roberts) it was very helpful. I'll look at swift, thanks
I agree with the advice from Raya. My last 2 bikes were advised by a bike bit first then using their expertise they can match the best bike frames suited for your body. They also take into account what your reasons are for the bike i.e. Sprint races vs Ironman or the all round bike.
Definitely worth the investment before spending a lot on a bike.
I've used Freespeed in the past for this but also heard good things from Swift too.

Though always exciting to get a new bike!!
You just better hope your missus doesn't have the presence of mind to check the Signa Sport website after you arrive home with your new P5 frame

You wouldn't want her to find out how much it costs - for no wheels, gears or even a saddle :-)

And if you have a spare £3500 you could swap your "low" grade Zipp Wheels for these possibilities from Enve

Charles B and I were checking them out in their shop after a ride and I got the distinct impression they were going to charge just for looking at them

hi - I measured up my old fitted trek and then followed the Planet X measurement guide online. I have to say I love the carbon frame and Ultegra gears and they make up for what old age is taking away (they are the only reason I've got faster) I took the bike for a proper fit recently and they only had to adjust it a tiny bit, so I reckon that the Planet X experience is with it. If you are looking for a fit that doesn't cost the earth Evans in Guildford do them for £50. A bit of a trek but couldn't find anywhere closer unless you are spending £££££.

One of the Planet X benefits for me is that they cater for women so this advice might not be helpful for you.  And I am sure your lovely wheels would suit one of their bikes very well.

Hi Robin

I'm biased but Canyon do amazing bikes and frames for very good value for money. The Aeroad is a thing of beauty.

Only down side is delivery times (and subsequent customer service), which they really need to sort out. Once you've got the bike though you forget about all that.

Thanks for the tips. Just waiting for my bike pimp to come back to me. He must be tired of his Pinarello by now!

Ah yes the Pinarello Dogma F10 - the missus will probably be ok as the frame will only set you back.... how much????

You do get the forks I suppose

Jake,  What size did you go for on the Canyon? I've just plugged in my details and it says a small frame. I'm a shrinking 5'10....
