Am heading to the Docks this Sat @9am for a pre tri swim and recce to get to know the area and then have coffee and cake!!  If anyone is interested let me know. And if you're not doing the tri and fancy it, as someone who is new to OWS, it's lovely in there...slightly salty but clean and dark!  You'll need a wristband, which you can pre buy and collect on the day, just ensure you select the Royal Victoria Docks as your pick up location - https://www.nowca.org  swims are £8.  Wetsuits only I think. They hire them too.  No where to change, so it's a grassy mound for all!

When does the triathlon start (how long would we have to swim?) I've never swam in open water before and I have a new wetsuit so I'd be up for this! Is it suitable for newbies?

Hi Helena. The London Triathlon is 22/23 July, but you have to book a place!  It's a 750m swim.  This is a good place to start, I am a newbie to it, and was very worried about my first swim at the docks, but it was actually lovely.  You can swim as far as you want.  There are people around and a man in a canoe!  Yes it is suitable for newbies (IMO) as long as you can swim at least 400m in a swimming pool without stopping - this is from their website!  So if you are okay with that, come along on Sat.  It's just a casual swim, I wasn't assessed before I had a go, no one stopped me or asked if I could swim that far without stopping!  See how you feel.  But you must buy your wristband before Sat!

I've ordered my wristband online :)

Ah I thought there was a thiathlon on the day you wanted to swim so they would kick us out at a certain time. I read your message wrong! I'm up for heading over this Saturday!

Hah!  No.  That's terrific.  My mob is 07702 851 859  Shall we meet at the Docks at 9.30? Swim ends at 11 on Sat, but that is enough time!  There's a desk where a lovely man will point you to your wristband (in boxes on ground by desk) and a tent for your bags once you've changed.  there's a mound of grass...where people get into wetsuits, best to wear your swim wear there.  I'll be there no matter what the weather!

I've sent you a text so you have my number for Saturday morning :)

I'm in!!
Open swim at the lido is cancelled this Saturday (Country show) so I'm sure we can rope more into joining. Is :D

Great!  We're meeting at the Royal Victoria Docks at 9.30am.

Thank you! Got my wristband already!

See you there!

xx
