Racing and training is great (on a good day), but it's always more fun with others!

So rather than just having the official club champs races next year (Sprint - Crystal Palace, Olympic: Sussex), we wanted to get a few more races into the calendar.
Whilst we'll only have prizes for the official club champs races (sprint, olympic and half iron) if we get a good group of us going to the other races then it's more fun, we can share any travel costs and it hopefully helps encourage new members (and oldies) to race.
So this year we're opening it up to nominations which we'll then vote on at the AGM on 14 Nov.
Suggested categories are:
- Mid summer sprint (for people who join the club after CP tri, ideally one that wont be sold out and with an Olympic option)
- I/2 Iron/middle distance (this will be the club champs)
- Iron distance
- Ultra tri (e.g. celtman, triathlon x etc)
- Half marathon
- Marathon
- Summer sportive
- Adventure race
- Open water
- Feel free to propose another category
Please post the name of the race(s) you want to propose, and what category it falls in. Ideally also include a link to the website, and a few bullets on why you think it's great. Then come along to the AGM (Monday 14 November at 7.30pm at Pizza Express) to vote.
- There's nothing to stop people suggesting other races through the year, it's just about getting some momentum around a few key races in the calendar, in the same way that we've done with Fleet Half, Ride of falling leaves, etc.
- These aren't official club races but once they're chosen, if someone wants to help out e.g. approaching the organisers for club discounts, or organising transport in the same way that Caroline did for Fleet, that would be amazing.

Don't forget tonight is your chance to vote for next years races! Bring your diaries and democratic voting energy! You cant un-vote Trump but you can air your race day lycra at the race of your choice!

I enjoyed the Hampton Court half last year. Close to us, lots of parking, good course, well run.

.....closes midday today.....

Well after we found out today that Donald Trump was born in Pakistan, I'm sure we can bend the rules to let you nominate a race in a Royal Park ;-)
With Charles race against sharks in the Arctic coming up soon, this should be useful background for training ideas.

Apparently Michael Phelps has been set up to race a shark - although even with some "speed fin device" money is still on the shark

Perhaps we should have a whip round and buy Mr Barclay one of these for his dip
in the Arctic?

This is the TV show for Phelps v shark

I'd rather you had a whip round for a shark cage to be honest...

as a matter of interest, has there ever been a recorded shark attack in the Lofoten Islands? You are probably more likely to be trampled to death by a moose.

Dunerunner do 3 runs a year 5km or 10km option. reasonable price. It's a run across the dunes in Norfolk. lots of accommodation near by and a bit of a challenge. dune runner.co.uk

He cheated and he had a dinghy -  apparently the sharks get to be 8 metres long so you should see them coming ;-)

A nice picture of one of these sharks in the Guardian review of Morten's book

I like the luminous green eyes with parasitic worms hanging from them too

Glad to note Greenland Shark has to be hauled up from the deep and that it feeds on napping seals (apparently they nap on the sea bed), rather than ones swimming on the surface.

Tony, I think you are getting Shark-drunk!

Am just off to Foyles to see if they have a copy of this book for you

Lesson seems to be don't swim anywhere near the bottom ;-)

Well Foyles came up trumps with the book

I also remembered I've an inflatable dinghy in the attic for JC to use to follow you with in case one of these 200 year old sharks gets too close
