Racing and training is great (on a good day), but it's always more fun with others!

So rather than just having the official club champs races next year (Sprint - Crystal Palace, Olympic: Sussex), we wanted to get a few more races into the calendar.
Whilst we'll only have prizes for the official club champs races (sprint, olympic and half iron) if we get a good group of us going to the other races then it's more fun, we can share any travel costs and it hopefully helps encourage new members (and oldies) to race.
So this year we're opening it up to nominations which we'll then vote on at the AGM on 14 Nov.
Suggested categories are:
- Mid summer sprint (for people who join the club after CP tri, ideally one that wont be sold out and with an Olympic option)
- I/2 Iron/middle distance (this will be the club champs)
- Iron distance
- Ultra tri (e.g. celtman, triathlon x etc)
- Half marathon
- Marathon
- Summer sportive
- Adventure race
- Open water
- Feel free to propose another category
Please post the name of the race(s) you want to propose, and what category it falls in. Ideally also include a link to the website, and a few bullets on why you think it's great. Then come along to the AGM (Monday 14 November at 7.30pm at Pizza Express) to vote.
- There's nothing to stop people suggesting other races through the year, it's just about getting some momentum around a few key races in the calendar, in the same way that we've done with Fleet Half, Ride of falling leaves, etc.
- These aren't official club races but once they're chosen, if someone wants to help out e.g. approaching the organisers for club discounts, or organising transport in the same way that Caroline did for Fleet, that would be amazing.

"Ah..you're gonna need a bigger boat"

First page of the book "if you need calm waters in Westfjorden you better not be in a rush.... We were finally going to try to catch the big fish"
One race I've done that is really nice is Sprint+ down at Stourhead in Wiltshire. Sat May 12th.

It's a single wave start with a single lap ride and run so you are racing everyone around you.
900m / 18m / 4.5m

And, best of all it starts at 17:00 so it's possible to do it in a day.

I've entered!
Are we doing a proposed like this again for next year?

Hold fire on your suggestions for races for now folks, not quite sure why Tony has resurrected this post from last year.

Details on process for deciding next year's club races will be coming soon....

Am afraid it is really just a vehicle to encourage and support Charles after he suggested we should sign up like he did for an ironman triathlon .... In the Arctic Circle on August 19

And Lloyd suggested that at least there would be no sharks in the swim....but it turns out there are sharks off Lofoten, they eat polar bears, grow 24 feet long, and live for 200 years.

But at least I've got a book for Charles so he will be well prepared for the swim.

Maybe it's time to start a Lofoten Ironman thread to follow his exploits?

The latest section of this book covers these two guys trying to catch one of these Greenland sharks and running into a Sperm whale - apparently it was bigger than a bus. Might make sighting the buoys tricky?
The latest bit is a also worrying

"In addition to saw-blade teeth, it has, like a few other sharks suctioning
lips that "glue" larger prey to it while chewing. And every mating act is violent. On the bright side the Greenland shark does not have sex until it's about 150 years old."

Just don't look any of the older ones in the eye Charles.
