Hi guys. I hope this double thread will work.

I am looking for company for 100km ride leaving mid morning this Thursday out into Kent somewhere. Preferably not too hilly but I just need to get the miles in.

2nd, I am looking for advice on saddles. I know it's a personal thing but any advice appreciated. I have read a bit about ISM Adamo. Balfes stock Pro Falcon with different widths and have female geometry. Or would anyone have a second hand saddle they're not using for trial and/or sale?

Kindly grateful for any advice.

Sorry I cant make the ride but am at Queen Mary's all day I'm afraid.

On the saddle you can "try before you buy" with test saddles at Condor bike shop in Gray's Inn Road. They have Specialized, Fizik, Selle Italia and Brooks saddles - womens' as well as mens'.

As I understand it they can talk you through what is available, you pay the (full price), and can work through the test saddles until you find the one that suits you best.

You can probably buy saddles cheaper on line but then it is pretty much hit and hope.

If you take your bike in and they aren't too busy they can even fit it for you.

It is a very individual thing though so there isn't really much alternative to finding one that fits your own anatomy - I've a few you could try but think they are all pretty much designed with men in mind.

Hope to get a free midweek ride in soon though before the end of summer so enjoy yourself on Thursday!

Thanks for that Tony. I might try them. Have a good week.

I use a selle italia gel flow saddle, women specific which is incredibly comfortable - no issues even after 7 hours in the saddle.  Next time we are at a session, happy to swap to try it round the park if you'd like.

Well if Paul can be that opportunistic......... I will point out that there is only 19 hours to go to bid for these cheap single speed wheels which currently are on sale on ebay by a very reputable seller ;-)

(they better be  cheap by the way - there really is nothing worse than the nightmare of people overbidding for something then you have to sort it out later)

I use a selle Italia Gel flow diva saddle too - it was a more by sight fit by Evans where you sit on a bit a card that changes colour depending on where your sit bones are. So far very comfy for me. I know you can get proper saddle fits and Lucy H is the best person to chat to about this.

Hi Paul - is it 128mm, 138mm or 148mm?

Cadence also offer a try before you buy scheme.

You will pay a large premium (about double) on the actual saddle you do buy for this service.

Saddles are individual however they're also not that complicated.

Saddle below is still available, i'll even let you try it before you buy it.

Hi Em - thanks for the reply. I stopped by Evans in East Dulwich for a browse. They didn't offer that card thing. I'll just have to get trying them I'd say.

@Hannah - I may take you up on that soon - thanks.

You may already know this, but I only learned it recently: apparently most women do better with the saddle nose tipped down a tiny bit. I'm testing it out and it has maybe made a bit of an improvement, although the most noticeable thing is that it's more comfortable if I ride in jeans to the shop or something, not much different otherwise.

I would be keen to know how you get on with your search for that elusive comfortable saddle. Apparently 100% of riders surveyed by British Cycling have issues, according to this, possibly too detailed, article:

You think women have problems Esther?

I'm taking up surfing again

Speaking with Harry he mentioned sigma has something like Saddle fitting service. Not sure how does it work tho...

I did a saddle fit with Specilized in their shop where they measure your sit bone width on a padded seat thing, and then let you try different saddles for a week each. I actually have a mountain bike saddle as that worked for me. Agree on the slight tilt down. Shorts will also play a big part too, getting ones with a pad that suits you also works wonders.
