Great news, Cross Country (XC) is back for a new season.

As with previous years, gender segregation is very important with XC. This means we have both a men's and women's team that run across various locations in Surrey. Races are always on a Saturday afternoon (between 2-4pm) and we need as many runners as possible to ensure we solidify our mid-table positions.

For all you non-competitive people who just like running in the countryside/in fields, competitiveness is not the most important element of XC - in the men's league there are a few people who almost certainly above the age of 75 and we are in Div. 4, the lowest (but most fun) league.

Important dates (confirmed so far)

Men's league

14th October - Wimbledon Common

11th Nov - Epsom Downs

Women's league

14th October - Reigate

11th Nov - Nonsuch park (not a joke, actually a park)

Sadly can't do the first one as I have some coaching training. Added the rest to the diary. It's good fun and great training!

Would love to try this, but do you have to attend all league meetings or can it be a case as and when possible? And what are the distances generally?

cheers

Yes you can attend any of them when possible. We want to aim for at least 10 runners per race so we can get the max points! Distances are usually between 8-10km. And it's also really cheap..previous years it worked out to be approx £3 to £4 for each race which is a bargain (Ben may be able to confirm if it's the same this time..)

Thanks Nick, sounds good will definitely try it!

I'd definitely be interested in this!

I want to join in this year! Have never done xc before, but hey how hard can it be...?
I would like to get involved, I'm one of the non-competitive types though, I hope that's acceptable?!

Depends how fast you go...

Actually, rumours are that the Windrush committee is being extra great and paying our fee. Racing should be free this year.

Jake - DM me your number and I'll add you to the whatsapp group.

I would like to join too. Sounds good fun

I am keen to do some XC as part of my winter toughening up, on the basis that  competitiveness won't be everything I'm in too !  Have already sounded out guides mad enough to want to come round with me
