Hello,

So last night I meet up with a good friend of mine for a casual run and had a pint afterwards for a  catch up!!

We are at the bar he looks at his watch, presses a few buttons and gains more Data Analysis than NASA pressing a couple of buttons. So my curious ( ok ok jealous ) side kicks in with The Colour Screen, No Heart Rate Belt and Analysis to make any Athletic Techie happy for the next decade.

We spent the next 30 mins chatting about " The Watch " and my friend is currently at the same level of happiness with his purchase as you or I were when we were kids at xmas.

I've been a diehard Sunnto Fan for the past few years and I must admit its great, its easy to use, configurable and The App and Software is really easy to use ( I like to keep life and technology simple ) . But I hate Heart rate straps, its bulky & impossible to wear to business meetings and maybe need an update.

Is anyone using one in the club ? Is it easy to use ? configurable ? + and - Points,

Are you as happy as my friend when you were a kid with the best toy you always wanted at xmas ?

Cheers

Also interested to hear about this, I'm considering investing in a Garmin 735XT which has many similar features as the Fenix, but in a slightly smaller watch shape. I could probably be happily guided towards the Fenix....

Another one to consider is the Garmin Forerunner 935. Its basically a 'cheap' version of the Fenix 5. Got all the same features, just the body is less dress watch like and more plastic. If anyone wants to have a play just let me know, I've been super happy with it.

As for strapless heart rate monitor, yep seems to work fine through the day but I've not relied on it for any serious training. Also I use a quick release mount for my bike which would obviously impact wrist hr detection.

I just bought a Fenix 5 as my wiggle discount went up to 17% ^_^ Totally worth it. Fantastic watch. Was particularly surprised by the strength training recording where it can work out what you are doing, counts reps and allows you to input weights. I do a lot of powerlifting so for me this is great. I should be st swim sat morning and will have it with me if you want to take a look.
What’s always put me off suunto is not being able to program custom workouts which you can do for bike, swim, run, strength training on the higher end Garmin devices. Really great not having to count pyramid intervals!!!

Paul, All, I use the Forerunner 735XT (the girlie Teal one). it does all the stuff that the Fenix does yet is far cheaper (£300if you shop around). I abs love it.

Is everyone familiar with DC Rainmaker - the world's foremost Garmin expert.

I should have added, I need a stupidly long battery life as I do ultra distance running and the Fenix is the only thing that will last 24 hours!

I have the Fenix 5s and I could not be more happy with it.

Pros;
- Battery is excellent!
- As you say, the data the watch collects is more than you will ever need.
It connects with all your other gadgets - power meter, turbo trainer, external heart rate monitor
-For me the s is not an obnoxious size. 920 and that range dwarfs my wrist
- Can use it for other sports - skiing, golf, basically EVERY activity know to man, including stand up paddle board (OBVIOUSLY I do this every weekend so was delighted with this feature)

Cons;
-The wrist based HRM is accurate but not necessarily "live". It takes a few minutes for it t read so when under stress of activity not accurate so for serious training you will want a chest based HRM
- No bike attachement or quick release style strap like the Forerunner series had which made it much easier for transitions and using on your bike.
-Garmin connect SUCKS, now and forever
