I'm looking for some winter cycling glove recommendations from people who get really cold hands.

I am a complete wuss and currently cant cycle more than about 30 mins before being in real pain with cold hands. I wear a pair of liners inside various different pairs of supposedly the most hardcore cycling gloves/ winter climbing gloves. I tried out neopreme inside winter gloves at the weekend but couldn't really brake or change gears! I occasionally use heated pads for longer rides but this isn't practical for getting to work every day.

I've read all the reviews on Wiggle etc but they dont really tell you which is warmer cos you dont know how cold the person writing the review gets and the ratings used by manufacturers aren't consistent.

Has anyone got recommendations of gloves that actually work for people with really, really cold hands (I'm not interested in your favourite gloves if you're the sort of person who only just started wearing gloves for the winter last week! )

thanks in advance!

I don't know if I've got really cold hands ( yes they get cold ) but SealSkin Gloves for me work a treat. Waterproof, keep my hands warm, not too bulky so I can use the brakes which I personally think is quiet important & don't cost a fortune.

Heya Lucy, I just ordered this glove layering system as I suffer the same problem. Now I cannot comment on how amazing they are because they haven't arrived yet but the reviews I read were good. They ain't cheap but you do get a combination of gloves to see you through all cooler seasons. The claim they will cover you in weather from 13c down to -4c.

I'll let you know when it arrives (which isn't until mid/late December as they been super popular)

My friend with really cold hands like the lobster type ones that keep your fingers together in pairs. She also wore the bike cleaning/lab gloves inside (nitrile is much better than latex!) and said that really helps.

I also use Sealskins- the black Ultra Grip ones that are about 30 quid i think. no guarantees but I also get pretty cold hands. I use them for ski touring as well.

I now have lobster gloves (mine are Giro) and find they are better, but I'm not sure they cure the cold hands problem completely.

Hi Lucy

As you know, I am also on the same hunt.

I have bought two pairs to experiment with:

- Pearl Izumi Softshell Gel Glove

- Sportful Sotto Zero

So far neither has really kept hands warm in c.2 deg cold, but am going to try them with inners too this week.

My boss recommends these: https://www.sealskinz.com/gloves/highland-claw-gloves.htm

Any other suggestions read with interest!

Some good tips in this book

Maybe add it to your Xmas list?

So.. as maybe someone noticed cycling with me I am not a massive fan of being cold.

I bought some AGU gloves from planet X. the lobster ones

They should be rebranded now as Carnac

https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CLCARULCRG/carnac-crab-hand-winter-gl...

I rarely use them as they are too warm if it is not below 5 deg.

The quality is ok, but fantastic for the price.

I am not 100% sure they are the same of the one in the link.

Ooh, they're very cheap Fran, and I like the fact they're too warm to wear!!

Thanks for all the recommendations guys, will keep you updated on how I get on.

Just seen Lidl have winter gloves in at the moment, seem very cosy inside, and Lidl prices!

They look awesome - but how was the sizing? I'm apparently an XL in measurement A, but then smaller than a small in measurement B and C!

mmmmmm I suggest to call them. Sizing is bit funny with them

I really like these https://www.sigmasport.co.uk/item/Specialized/Element-20-Gloves/559H

Especially having separate index/middle fingers for levers. They are a bit pricier, but do the job (I got them on super sale at the end of last year). I think Fran's full lobster gloves were winning on warmth when we compared last year.

And I'll let you know how it is after tomorrow's sub-zero commute in!
