Looking for tried & tested route to Brighton and back

Does anyone have a nice route through countryside to Brighton and back (preferably a different route but again through countryside). Anything to avoid main busy roads for a long period of time (I breathe enough fumes through commuting in London...)

A Strava link or any other site with GPS would be fab. I've seen some but not sure if there are trustworthy!

I'm basically planning ('plan' is a key word here) to complete Rapha 500 and thought Brighton & back could be part of it. Planning to ride at some point between 26th and 29th - you are welcome to join! Early start for sure and if it's raining I probably give it a miss and count as 'end of year failure' :)

Charles Barclay has an excellent route - not sure if it’s GPX’ed or not

A basic idea is to head out via West Wickham then through to Downe over ridge then head towards Edenbridge. From there I go towards Hartfield but it is pretty steep in places.

From Hartfield there is a way of going across to Hayward’s Heath with the only issue being one crossing of the A22.

From Hayward’s Heath it is quite straightforward to follow B2112 to Ditchling where you must stop at Dollies Tea Shop for cake....before heading up Ditchling Beacon.

Then follow the road along the top of the South Downs to the junction with the A27 - be careful as you cross a busy road to head up a hill before a nice long descent into town (be careful cos you can really pick up speed on that section and the locals might not be expecting you to be hurtling towards your chips at that speed).
