Hi everyone

As part of the development of the club, Windrush is looking for members who would potentially be interested in undertaking the BTF Level 1 Coaching qualification.

The course, would theoretically be funded by British Triathlon and the local council and would result in you becoming a Level 1 Assistant Coach.  In return, you will be asked to support the club by helping to deliver sessions planned and written by one of our Level 2 coaches.

Practically what kind of commitment does this involve?

Having taken the qualification earlier in the year, I can advise that the course takes place over three seperate days (mine was three sundays in a row).  It runs through basic coaching and triathlon principles with both a practical and written exam - both extremely straightforward... trust me!

From the club's perspective you will be asked to and be relied upon to lead certain sessions from time-to-time.  This could be the Wednesday bike/run session or one of the pool swims.  Additionally, you could create new sessions such as a weekend bike ride or an evening run etc.

Having completed the Level 1 qualification, there would also be the possibility of developing your skills further to become a Level 2 coach further down the line if you wish.  This is not a pre-requisite though and if for the time being your objective is to develop some basic coaching skills to help out your favourite triathlon club (as with me) then this is fine.

Please reply to this blog entry if you are interested and either Martin, Stuart or I will be in touch to discuss with you further.

See you tonight at the JAGS swim - 20.15 at JAGS school - North Dulwich

Hi, I would give this a go for sure
Hey Oliver,

I would be interested to find out more about getting the qualification and helping out.
Would there be any expense in getting the qualification?

Regards,

Luke
Hi
I would be interested as well
Count me in
Cheers
Hi guys

At the moment - we don't have any commitment on how this will be funded, but we hope that the local council / BTF will get involved to pay for it all. I cant confirm this yet though. The only other expense you would theoretically have is to travel to the venue for the course.

At the moment, we are just gauging interest among members. When we have some more definite details, we can speak to all interested parties in more detail.

Cheers

Oliver
Hi Oli,
Sounds interesting; I'd be up for it. Would certainly like to know more about it.

Cheers mate

Hi Oliver,

I would be very interested in doing this course. I'm a fully qualified Personal Trainer with Injury Rehab specialisation and I would love to be able to add Traithlon Coach to this qualification (be useful in session plans too - maybe I could run and injury prevention clinic once a month for the club?)

Chloe ;)
Hi Chloe

Thanks for your interest. This sounds like a great suggestion and being able to use your expertise on a periodic basis would be a great addition to the club. You would still need to coach a certain amount every month (a requirement from British Triathlon), although these sorts of sessions could be included im sure.

When we have more information, i'll let everyone know.

Thanks

Oliver
