Event Description

Windrush AGM 2014

This is an official announcement that the Windrush annual general meeting will be held on Monday 3rd November 2014. Subject to confirmation it will be held in the downstairs of Pizza Express, Herne Hill, with a social afterwards.

At the AGM the Chair will give a report of the club year, along with the secretary and head coach. Following this, all of the committee positions will be voted in. For those that do not know about the committee positions, please take a look at who currently occupies the positions under the 'Home' tab and what they involve.

All of the positions will need to be filled for the next club year and we are encouraging members old and new to consider stepping forwards. The club works as well as it does due to the committee, and without it there would be no Windrush!! Feel free to message or approach any current committee members at any time to find out more. We will also be organising a social in mid October where you can chat to all of us, and a post on this will follow soon from Nicky. Members are also welcome to our next committee meeting on Monday 13 October, 7:30pm, Pizza Express downstairs, if they want to see what happens there!!

I would also like to take this opportunity to say that I will not be standing again as chair this year. I have been chair since we formed a committee 3.5 years ago, and I think that it would be a good idea for someone new to take on this position. I have absolutely loved being the chair, and there have been so many wonderful experiences during this time. I feel so proud of the club and what we have achieved. Windrush means a great deal to me and it is not without some considerable sadness that I will step down, but I think that it is now time for this to happen. I really hope we have several people step forward who want to be considered for this role. I came into it with no experience and we built the club up to what it is now. Somebody new can take the club in new directions and with new strengths. All you need is passion, organisation, and a bit of free time!

I hope everybody within the club can take some time to think how they can contribute to the running of the club, and what position they would like to stand for next year. Without you guys stepping forwards there will be no Windrush in 2015, so it's down to you!

My sincerest apologies - I got caught up in today's general SouthWest trains' chaos, and everything went haywire.

Hey all, sorry about the short notice but can't make it tonight - have been ill since lunchtime so it's bed for me.

Best of luck to the new elects and many thanks to the incumbent committee!

Just a reminder about tonight....you will need to pay for your own drinks, and bring £5 towards pizza if you would like some.  If you are GF please tell Jon at the start so we can order special ones.

We have already pre-ordered the pizza as there will be so many of us. If all of the 'maybe's' turn up (which we hope will happen!) then we will need to order extra...so please don't take more than your share at the start ;-P

The AGM itself will commence at 7:30pm so please try and arrive between 7 and 7:30. If you are late, its better late than never!

Happy to if needed!

Excellent. Respect for the chutzpah!

5 days to go and we have smoked out a contested leadership! :)

So .... who else?

First of all, I'd like to echo Susan's comments.

I think the club is at a turning point in it's development, with all past and present members making significant contributions along the way.  if the club is to continue in it's growth, we the members (not just the committee members), need to play an active positive part.

Currently, each year all of the committee positions come up for re-election -  in the interests of clarity, I've thrown my name into the hat for Chair.

In case it wasn’t startlingly clear, the point about term limits is about what is better for the club. It is no more about Laura than it is about reclaiming the Sudetanland and invading Poland.

Paul, to avoid further confusion; are you announcing your candidacy for Chair?

Independently of everything that's been said, I just want to say a massive thank you to Laura for everything she's done for the club over the last 4 years. When Laura was appointed chairperson for the first time I was appointed treasurer at the same time and after a year of very hard work I gave it up because I couldn't and didn't want to commit the time required. Laura meanwhile has been reappointed every year and has devoted endless energy and huge amounts of her personal time to the good of the club. I appreciate no one is calling this into question but still, I know a lot of the newer members are not aware of just how much Laura has influenced the club for the better and set it on the right course, so I want to highlight that here.

Bring on the AGM and a chance to influence the future of the club! And eat pizza.

Thank you to all the committee for the hard work, please know we are all VERY grateful .

PS I am very much supportive of anonymous ballots for the election of committee positions.

Thank you Tony for re-addressing the discussion!

It would be great if we could have a lot more people interested in covering all the positions. Would not call it a dictatorship though. Slightly unfair to someone that has given so much for the club.

By the way, whoever wants to be a run captain, my position is open. I am happy to continue but if anyone else with new ideas and renewed energy wants to take over, please step forward and people can vote at the AGM.

Hope to see many of you on Monday 3rd.
