I believe other clubs make us of it  but I'm not sure Windrush is very aware of the 3-lap RP challenge. It's basically a Strava segment beginning at Roehampton Gate and going anti-clockwise (otherwise Strava wouldn't twig it, and smoother at roundabouts).

I mention it now because Sam smashed the Windrush record this morning by 4 minutes and may not be aware of it. Anyway, maybe something to use as a training aid.

This should be the link to the Windie list, there is also an all-comers list somewhere:

Thanks for bringing this up, I've now decided what I am going to do with my day off this week!!!
And we'll done Sam that's a cracking time!!!

wasn't aware of it. Good to know... I generally cycle clockwise though, so Strava never picked it up...

yep, I liked the idea; given the location it could work like an insentivised time trail, available all week ..

Just be aware that the police are  handing out tickets to cyclists as well as motorists if you are clocked going over 20mph (30kph) in Richmond Park. So keep your eyes peeled for a bobby in the bushes...

I reckon time of day would be a big factor in how fast you could go as well (given that sometimes you have to slow down for cars, deer etc). A good time to go for it at Richmond park is at dusk after they close the car gates - the park's open to pedestrians (and in theory cyclists) 24/7 but not to cars haha! This week the car gates shut at 21:00 so you have a brief window in which to floor it, car-free, before it gets dark. Don't forget to charge your lights/check batteries or you'll be getting the train back or sitting dejectedly at the side of the road like I did one evening last summer until a passing cyclist took pity on me and gave me some batteries. Or get there before 7am if you don't mind a very early start.

It's a Royal Park byelaw, of course. No general law for speeding on a bike - unless you kill someone then you might be prosecuted for 'cycling furiously'.

Assuming I stopped, turned around and went back to talk with Charles' bobby in the bush, I'd absolutely take them on in court. They're going to prove beyond all reasonable doubt their machine locked onto me and not one of the other cyclists around me - good luck with that.

Those speed guns are designed to lock onto a single car going in single file. Got no chance. :)

It's strange you mention that because I was looking at full moon's in exactly this context last night. Just missed one. The deer don't seem to be an issue and the pedestrian side gates are never locked. Got to be totally surreal lapping around there at midnight.

I tend to do a couple of laps clockwise and then anti-clockwise. I may have to give it a go!

Having cycled through the park in the dark it is very surreal. The deer do avoid the road but make sure you've got bright lights for the other wildlife.

Hi Rory,  As your a bit of a track legend on the one speed. Give The three laps Strava Richmond Challenge a crack on that :)

Haha I'm not sure about that! I was paying for it the next day after the track. That said I may put the racer aside and give it a go on the single speed :-)

Agree with Charles you have to watch out for the police. They usually sit either to the South of Sheen Cross roundabout or at the bottom of Broomfield Hill!!

Be great to get a little unofficial TT going. I get there early doors - 6am - and I find this is the best time for both road a cycling traffic. Was great this morning hardly anyone on the road.

Will be doing this next week & will post on this thread, see if anyone else wants to join. We could start on handicap, makes it a bit more fun.
