Hey windies, am thinking about getting a bike fit. Cadence charge £150, which seems steep. Is it worth it? Would any of you recommend it and if so where?

Alps-Pyrenees trip: I'd like to do a cycling trip around the Alps or Pyrenees to get some good climbing in. There are tours or could look at getting a chalet and mapping routes ourselves to save money. Is anyone interested and does anyone have recommendations of trips they've been on? Looking at doing this around late June or July.

thanks

Hi Jake,

I can't do the Alps-Pyrenees but would be interested to know if anyone comes back with a bike fit recommendation.

Thanks,

Jake - I am the reverse of Rory....I'd be keen on the trip!

Nic Roberts who is our club partner VeloPhysio does in my opinion very good bike fits. She is on the partners page under membership. As someone with various dodgy bits I found a bike fit vastly increased my comfort on the bike and also power output. I think she charges about £100.

Thanks Laura I'll check it out.

For the trip there are quite a few tour organisers: https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&am...

Options are going with one of those or if there are enough windies interested we could look at organising oursevles.

Key point would be price difference between paying for a tour and doing it 'diy'.

If there are other windies interested let us know!

In respect of bike fit, i used this a few years ago to give an indication of what might work for you:

I can also recommend some nice campsites in the Alps with access to the big climbs - Yum!

Yay to big climbs!

That tool seems useful when buying a bike but in terms of set up I think a lot depends on flexibility, past injuries etc. Also knowing if you need things like insoles to correct knee tracking or shims if one leg is longer than the other (apparently quite common!) is also going to play a part, and definitely saddle type and positioning. I guess it depends on if you have some money to spend and how comfy / injury prone you are already. In my view there isn't much point in spending loads of money on a nice bike if you don't then fine tune it to you.

Hi Jake,

Yep Id be keen on a trip, just pending on dates really. Chalet, Hotel or Campsite I don't care I just want to get away from my desk, phone & excel spreadsheet thats been staring me in the face for the best part of today & go riding on my bike.

Tony, Malcolm and I had a great week in Bourg d'Oisins at the foot of Alpe d'Huez in 2012 when we were doing the tri there. We stayed in prefab cabin in the camp site at the foot of the climb 'Camping le Piscine' and from there you can do the Alpe, cols de Croix de Fer, Glandon, Telegraph, Galibier etc. It is very busy for the tri week and if the tour is going to Alpe D'Huez, in which case I would choose a different week.

I am already going to the Pyrenees and Italian Alps this summer, otherwise I would have been up for it.

This is quite exciting! I don't have tonnes of money so would prefer at least partially DIY. I may have to get a compact chainset or a bigger cog at the back!

Are you coming too?

Thanks for the bike fit and campsites info. Russel if you have links to the campsites you know that would be great.

Happy to contact them and draw up shortlist with prices, dates etc. If people can also confirm if they;re definitely up for it so we have an idea of numbers that would be great.

Calendar wise: a long w/e (Thurs-Monday) in late June-July? Again pls confirm.

The tour goes through the alps just before Paris (http://www.letour.com/le-tour/2016/us/overall-route.html) so early July would be best (and cheaper I imagine). Then again happy to try during the Tour if people are up for it?

Cheers

Anne and I did Raid Pyrenees last September. It was fabulous if you like 3500m climb over 170km per day. It's good climbing over every col. We went with Marmot and they sorted everything.
You could sign up for Alpe D'Huez long course. I need someone to go with. 23 July.
