Hello I am very new to this. I went for my first swim session and though coaches very kind and supportive I struggled and had to leave 10 mins early. I would like to try again if that possible having taken advice why this was but I would like to know the best sessions for novices to attend if that possible. Many thanks. Alex

Hi Alex. I'm always back of the pack at the swim sessions and left early in the first couple. You can completely take the sessions at your own pace and the Thursday evening sessions are designed to be skill based so you shouldn't feel left behind. You will see progression so quickly after a few of these too. Audrey also offers some one-to-one sessions which are so helpful.

Thank you Katy!
Alex
Alex I can only agree with Katy. Don't worry about the freakish speed of some of the team!

Do what you can of the session at your pace, and persevere. It'll come...

From a rubbish swimmer!

Ditto what everyone else has said. All sessions are open to all but Thursday and Tuesday am are the sessions focussing on technique (until the end of the month when the timetable changes). Dont worry about the pace of others, just take the session at your own speed and ask the coaches for specific feedback if you want it. Or book in for a 1:1 session with Audrey or Emily (thurs eve coaches)

Lucy, Head Coach

Thank you Lloyd and Lucy!
Alex

When I started my first sessions in the water back in May I was having panic attacks feeling out of breath after swimming 400m. Now I can complete endurance sessions, tagging along at the back of the faster group. I did exactly as people suggested above - left sessions early when I was knackered, took it at my own pace, got lots of fantastic advice and just kept coming along and saw the improvements.

Try Again! Try again!

Hey Alex - I know how intimidating it can be - but don't let it put you off. For those of us who didn't come from a swimming background, we all started where you are now!

When I joined Windrsuh (3 years ago) I couldn't even swim 25 meters without being on the verge of panicking and being really out of breath.

It does come though - keep at it and you will be so surprised with yourself how fast it comes and before you know it you will be cruising along with everyone in your lane!

Have patience and don't be afraid of letting the coach know your a newbie and that any advice would be welcome!

See you at one of the sessions soon!

Raya

Thank you James and Raya! Alex
