I got any injury on the bike, third party, but no cover...Can anyone recommend law firms they may have used, even if through cover, that I could contact directly? I want to avoid the rafts of less…Continue

Anyone else had weird experiences with Balfe's?

So, my Giant Defy stays with me for at least another season...Balfe's are a Windrush partner, but (or perhaps more so) I feel I ought to share this story. The lesson is, at the least, that it's often…Continue

"Really sorry to hear this Gary, I hope the injury is not too serious. I haven't used a personal injury lawyer myself but I will ask around and see if I can get a recommendation for you."

I've upgraded from Vivoactive3, the 645 has buttons rather than touch-screen (which was hit and miss and always going berserk in the shower). With music on-board I can leave the mobile at home when going for a run now. See More

"Hi Gary, Sorry if you received patronising / rude behaviour. We shall all be talking about this and why it is not acceptable. We try very hard to be an inclusive shop, it is part of the businesses personality. I can't explain it so shan't…"

"Oh dear, this is partly my fault for encouraging you not to dump your Giant Defy.... but bizarre (and unacceptable) behaviour from the guy at Balfes in Dulwich. Good that you got a second opinion."

Anyone else had weird experiences with Balfe's?

So, my Giant Defy stays with me for at least another season...Balfe's are a Windrush partner, but (or perhaps more so) I feel I ought to share this story. The lesson is, at the least, that it's often prudent to collect a second opinion.I booked my bike in to fix a bashed brake cable 'collar' (the silver bit on top of the caliper) and get the gears spot on again after the bike was bashed being transported (slung in back of an Uber after two punctures in a row in the pouring rain). I opted for a…See More

"NO Gary, what are  you thinking? A bike is one area of life where we can push back a bit against the throw-away consumer culture and give our steeds the necessary TLC to keep them going for many, many years. Bike companies are now trying to…"

When to scrap a bike?

Any advice very welcome. I got a Giant Defy-4 from Cadence CP at the end of 2014 (£480 down from £600).After many miles, and a few patch ups and number of things have failed at once. It's in need of a new chain, cassette, and chain-set. The back wheel also has been bumped, so it's slightly oval...£350 to put right, £70-100 for the rear wheel alone, £80 for labour. Balfe's quote. The depreciated value can only be £150 after 4.5 years, and it's been leaking rust coloured water from the…See More
