After a years hiatus, thanks to you know what, the Surrey XC league is back, bigger and better than ever! For those new to the club, XC is a four-race series that pits us against other running and triathlon clubs in South London and Surrey.
This is a great way to keep up your running throughout the winter. It's sociable, relaxed and you don't need to be a fast runner to take part. The more Windrushers we have, the better we score, so as with all sport, the more the merrier.

The races are run over mixed terrain so trail shoes/spikes are best but, providing conditions aren't too wet and slippery, regular trainers are also fine. Due to the somewhat archaic history of the competition, Ladies and Mens leagues are separated so run at different venues and at different times but normally on the same days. In true Windrush style we frequently all end up in the pub back in South London/near Windrush training locations.

Rules are slightly different between Ladies and Mens competitions. Ladies teams the top 4 runners score so we often field two teams. For the men, the top 10 score so it's important the fellas have a good turnout each week. Scores are based on finishing position so the smaller the score the better.

There is no cost for runners to compete in this league as Windrush pays to enter the team. As this is an England Athletics event, the league rules require all team members have EA membership. For those not members, you can purchase membership for only £15 here and you get the added benefit of going into the London Marathon draw.

If anyone is a member of another athletics club and their EA membership is with them, you can still run for Windrush in this league as a second claim entrant. We need to register your second claim status before the first race (16/10) so please reach out to either Sara or myself before then.

If you have any questions please post below or ask in any of the WhatsApp groups. Otherwise, if you want to take part please sign up to the races you can attend listed in MyClubhouse below (we need you to do this so we can allocate you a race number). Surrey XC requires us to register your DoB, so by signing up, we will take that as your consent to share these details unless you tell us otherwise. We also have dedicated WhatsApp groups (yes another!) to help coordinate each race.

The below race details are as much as we know about each event at present. Timings are subject to change but we will continue to update this thread and the various MyClubhouse events as more information is made available.

Hello fellow Windies,

After what will be 4 years of service I have decided to hang up the keyboard and not stand again for the IT Officer role. I've really enjoyed my time in the role and it has been amazing to work alongside such dedicated and enthusiastic individuals while trying to help the club grow from strength to strength. It's a fabulous opportunity to give back to the club and get to know more people than you might do just by training and racing.

Here is a quick low down of the role:

MyClubhouse management
Work with other groups in the club (Coaching, membership, kit etc) to keep MyClubhouse up-to-date and working efficiently. Don't worry, there is no software development required, we have full support from the application vendor. The vendor is very responsive and always willing to help if we need to do something that is not obvious.

Forum management
Hardly takes up much time at all. A little bit of user administration and moderating is all that is required.

Club email
We use Google Workspace. Understanding how email/dns works would be useful but not essential. I'll ensure all the domains are renewed for many years before I finish up. Basic user admin is all that is required.

Main website
We use Squarespace as a hosting partner but since that's all setup it is very easy to manage. Just need to help update the content occasionally.

It might sound like a lot but it isn't too arduous. All these systems have been in place for some time so it's really just adding to them as the club evolves. I am partway through writing an instruction manual. Also, I am not leaving the club so will be always available to help with any questions that might come up.

Feel free to WhatsApp me if you have any questions or are interested in the role. I'd be happy very to for a pint with laptop in hand to show anyone around the systems if you think you might be keen.

Cheers!

Colin

XC Surrey league is back and here to kick away the post-race blues!

This is a great way to keep up your running throughout the winter. It's sociable, relaxed and you don't need to be a fast runner to take part. The more Windrushers we have, the more points we get! We've had a great Windrush turnout in previous years so it would be great to see the same again in the 2019-2020 season.
