Does your BTF account have a picture? If not, it might cost you!

Ahoy!

Some of you may have received an email from BTF/Triathlon England letting you know they will be replacing their current butterfly-style cards with plastic ones. What this means is you need to have a picture uploaded onto your BTF account, otherwise you will have a blank square on your card (as your new card will be ordered automatically if your membership fee is taken as a direct debit).

This means you will need to bring alternative ID to events to avoid paying for a day…

An Older Newbie

Ok, so I blame Lara and Lois and Emily and Lucy for joining.  I'm 57 1/2, doing my first sprint tri at CP in May and another in July.  I'm not competitive (except with myself), but love sport and exercising.  I used to throw the javelin for Barnet.  My day job is as a writer. Only started running a year ago, having told everyone never to run because it's bad for you...have been doing pilates for 6 years, yoga for 3, I'm a later in life swimmer, strong and competent.  Only bought a bike…

A shock to the system

just a short post, and first of all, I'd like to express my utmost respect for anyone training for multi sport events. Mine coming up in June is my first event, and has completely changed my sense of perspective as to how fit you need to be, and also, the dedication required to achieve that.

I was training on my own with a good measure of learning from books, the internet (youtube has been great regards technique) and others that have competed in multi sports events, and had pushed…

Hello

Looking forward to training! I am very out of shape at present... having moved to London three years ago and not really found much time to train. Last tri was 2012 - so need to get fit again. 10k PB 47 minutes. Current 57 mins!

Places in Virgin Active Triathlon - a bargain

Hi everyone,

We still have a few places left in the London Triathlon and we want to complete our team. Because next week is the deadline for registrations we are removing the fundraising pledge (£500) and we are only asking for a donation of £50 plus the registration fee of £50.

I hope there will be many of you interested to represent Doctors of the World at the London Triathlon.

If you want to join the team, please send an email to…

Good Running Injury prevention video

To everyone at my track sessions in April - check out this really good video by Runners' World USA:

Desperate times

So, my plan for this years Ironman races was to go down the ‘Wiggins’ route and lose weight as three out of my four M-dot races this year are proper hilly! It turns out that’s not really working for me as I’ve also lost some strength. Sunday turned into a difficult day for another reason too of course - it was very hot - and that was something we’re just not used to!

Race day and up at 3:15, force down a bit of breakfast, then it’s a cab to Pennington Flash to check on my bike,…

Tropical Tenby part 2

Great blog Tony and awesome effort, you truly are a super athlete to be able to do more than one of these things per year! To add to Tony's comments thought I'd put my two penny's worth in (sorry it goes on a bit). I’m still in Tenby enjoying a peaceful week off in the beautiful Pembroke countryside.

I rocked up on Friday afternoon on the train and had the pleasure of travelling with two Americans on the train, one a former Marine who'd never been to the UK before. I was asked a…

Tropical Tenby

The first Ironman Wales!

Arrived Thursday afternoon, went straight to registration above the South Beach where the swim was to start from and noticed the wind immediately! The marquees they had up were flapping around quite a bit and were held down with huge tanks of water on each corner - a sign of things to come!

Went for a practice swim on Friday morning - 1k took me 34 minutes (ouch!) in a choppy sea with bit of a current, still at least the rain had stopped for…

Lanza lessons

... or 'How not to do an Ironman'!

Firstly, big congrats to Ted with a fantastic finish time of 11 hours 21 mins - and fame as he was interviewed during the run and is on the official DVD!

My day didn't end quite so well ...

Swim was OK at 1:13. The bike leg wasn't too bad at 7:25, especially as the wind was a lot stronger than last year. So far so good - I'm a bit faster everywhere despite the increased wind and heat. First run loop (half…

Ouch, that hurt!

It's always good to try something new (isn't it?!) so when I got an email about the London Ultra Marathon 50K run a couple of weeks ago I just couldn't resist.

The route is point-to-point from Streatham Common (handy) to Wembley (not so handy!) and follows the Capital Ring through as many parks and river/canal banks as possible in between.

It kicked off with compulsory registration the day before in Wembley but it was combined with a small expo so you get to…
