It is Windrush Day on 22 June, a day to commemorate the Windrush story.

This club takes its name from Windrush Square in Brixton which was so named to honour the Windrush generation and their contribution to British life.

In recognition of this, during Windrush week (22-28 June) the club will be charging an extra £3 for each training session with all additional income being donated to the Black Cultural Archives.

The Black Cultural Archives is the home of British Black history, whose mission is to collect, preserve and celebrate the histories of people of African and Caribbean descent in the UK and to inspire and give strength to individuals, communities and society. We felt it was fitting to donate to the Black Cultural Archives not only because of its mission but also because it is based in the Square where we take our name from.

If you wish to make your own separate donation to the Black Cultural Archives, or wish to find out more about their work, you can find out more here: https://blackculturalarchives.org/

Yes, great idea Charles, and brilliant plan for next WR day, we’ll make a plan.

Great idea Sally and a good cause for us to support. Maybe next year we could take this further by organising a sponsored bike ride from the dock in Tilbury where the SS Empire Windrush docked to Windrush Square in Brixton? Not possible this year with the covid rules still in place.
