Hey windies, am thinking about getting a bike fit. Cadence charge £150, which seems steep. Is it worth it? Would any of you recommend it and if so where?

Alps-Pyrenees trip: I'd like to do a cycling trip around the Alps or Pyrenees to get some good climbing in. There are tours or could look at getting a chalet and mapping routes ourselves to save money. Is anyone interested and does anyone have recommendations of trips they've been on? Looking at doing this around late June or July.

thanks

Apologies for delayed response, had to dig out some notes from recent trips…

I have stayed a couple of times at Le Colporteur which is nicely located in Bourg D’Oisans and is a good base for cycling the area (Alpe d’Huez!). Located easily walkable to the town centre which is a bit of a cycling resort with several bars and restaurants with cycle themes. The campsite has loads of shaded pitches and you can also hire cabins.

Camping de Cinq Vallees in Briancon is also recommended, shady plots and has a pool.

A friend recommends (he thinks…) Camping Le Val d’Ambin which is a few kms up the valley from Modane.

The bike fit thing is indeed for new purchases, but appears Cadence gets a favourable recommendation for bike fittings. Definitely going to need the 28 sprocket on the back!!

Thanks for all the info will check it all out!

Hey windies, here is some info on campsites in the area, in terms of dates week 18-24 July would be great as the tour will be going through the Alps then.

Spoke with this one, seems good, about 4km outside Bourg d'Oisans, one of the apartments is still available and they do meals and breakfast (ie. half board)

€575/week +€15 pp/night  (approx €800/week)

Camping La piscine: http://www.camping-piscine.com/index.php/fr/tarifs €115/night + €11 pp/night

Camping Val d'Ambin http://www.camping-bramansvanoise.com/uk/il4-page_p265-ambin-chalet...

Du 09/07/16 Au 20/08/16 679€

+ €35 pp/night

Camping colporteur: http://www.camping-colporteur.com/rental-chalet-5-persons-typea-2-b...

A few options at this one but most of the 4pp cabins seem to be 1 double bed + 1 room with 3 singles.

Flights: to Grenoble aren't available yet (mid-April) but for Lyon they're around £90pp + bike case etc + trasnfer to the campsite

If there are 4 people going it would work out at roughly £350 (+ food & booze) for the week I think.

Personally I'm keen to move ahead on this, anyone interested please let me know!

... although the route is not going to Alpe d'Huez etc, but further up to Megeve, Morzine etc.

Hi Jake - this looks good and the dates work for me. Its also just before the triathlon hits town (25-29 July) so we will avoid that crazyness. I will take a look at the campsites and stuff over the weekend if thats OK?

I'm hoping another Windie lady is keen otherwise room sharing maybe a tad tricky?!

Hey Laura, yep sorry should have said: would be ideal to have 1+ lady and 1+ bloke for sharing rooms etc.

I've just realised Ironman UK is on 17 July and I'm supporting at that. I may have to come a day late or something.
Ugh and then it might not work if we need to hire a car or something?

I'm definitely interested in a DIY cycling trip, I got a book for my last birthday fifty places to bike before you die, and Switzerland is on there, it recommends this outfit, which has what looks like some good routes for inspiration. http://www.bikeswitzerland.com/jura-tour/

Perhaps see you at the next Tuesday AM swim Jake for a chat about it?  I'll know more on dates in a week or two when project plans firm up. July should be do-able I hope.

PS I'd be happy to drive, we've got an estate and cheapie halfords back rike rack takes 3

hi Kit, it does look good but it's a bit pricy (£2k approx?) for me.

Would be good if you're up for the Alps, that would make it 2 blokes (you and me) and then we would just need 1 more lady for Laura :)

Hiya Jake yea the more the merrier. I wasn't dreaming of paying for a rolls royce tour - well maybe one day. I meant that link just as a route idea, the accomodation routes foid etc we all put together ourselves. I've mountaineered in Switzerland just not biked, how about you?

yes I'm up for the Alps!
