Hi all,

Very soon we will be taking bookings for the Windrush weekend away training camp. Whoop whoop!

We’re hoping that the trip will offer a range of training options, both coached and uncoached, along with the opportunity for some good social time together.

It will take place near to Bristol on the weekend of Friday 2nd Sept – Sunday 4th September. We’re still confirming the exact details but options should include:

Saturday:

  • Open water swimming at http://bristolopenwater.co.uk/ - optional timed race (choice of 4 distances, from 650m – 3900m) followed by normal open water swimming til 12.30 including optional coaching
  • Afternoon cycle ride
  • Coached run sessions on track at the swim venue
  • Or all day cycle ride

Sunday:

  • Am: Mini tri – untimed self guided triathlon: OWS followed by 25 mile cycle ride, followed by run, with chance to practice transitions
  • Afternoon cycle ride

Cost: £110

What it includes:

  • 2 nights’ accommodation in university residences (single ensuite rooms in cluster flats sharing a kitchen diner at £35/night ) - 45 mins cycle ride from the OWS venue - http://www.universityrooms.com/en/city/bristol/popups/vendor/hiattb...
  • 1 lake swim and mini tri
  • Breakfast at accommodation x 2
  • Picnic lunch x 2
  • (Bike rides are obviously also free!)
  • Our very own Rory is offering to do an evening talk on his experiences from the Transcontinental Race that he’ll have just returned from
  • Lots of time for chat and fun with fellow club members

What it does not include:

  • Sunday night accommodation (NB check out is at 10am on Sunday morning so you may want to book Sunday night so you have somewhere to shower etc before heading home, we are trying to negotiate a discount/ access to some rooms for showers and luggage storage but this is not confirmed yet, will let you know asap)
  • Transport (either car share or train from London – Bristol is currently about £50 for a group save ticket leaving Friday at 18.45, back anytime, up to £100 return travelling alone at peak times).
  • Bike transport – if there is demand we’ll hire a van to take the bikes of those going on the train, plus taxis at the other end
  • Run track entry at the lake (£2 extra)
  • Second lake swim (i.e. if you want to swim Sat and Sunday it’s an additional £5)
  • Race entry on the Saturday  (£8-£15)
  • Coaching (price tbc depending on numbers)
  • Dinner – there are pubs etc near to the accommodation and the idea is we would all go out to eat together
  • Insurance – you and your bike travel at your own risk and we’d encourage you to hold your own insurance

We want the trip to be as inclusive and open all as possible (especially newer members) so will TRY to arrange a variety of bike ride options (distances, pace etc) but this is dependent on members volunteering to lead them. For those who want something not too challenging there is the UK’s first ever cycle track from Bristol – Bath which is fairly flat (it’s an old railway line) and easy to navigate. For those wanting something a bit lumpier the hills of Wales await.

NB – the trip is entirely volunteer organised and non-profit making. If there is any money left at the end we’ll either put it into the evening meal kitty or donate to an agreed charity.

Booking details will follow early next week, and we’ll need to take payment fairly soon after in order to secure the rooms, but I wanted to give you a heads up for now so that you’re ready to book as soon as I confirm details.

I know plenty of riding around Bristol so let me know some distances and required toughness and I can provide some routes.
This sounds fabulous Lucy, thanks for organising. I'd love to come.
This looks great fun! I've recently signed up for a charity cycling event in the French Alps this weekend so unfortunately won't be around.

Sounds cool. A preliminary yes from me

It may be a no for me. In going on holiday and may be in crotia

Penciled in as a yes, just got to confirm a few things first.

Hi!

What's the best level of experience for this... I think I'd be keen but I want to make sure I'm pitching myself right!

I'm comfortable in the saddle, am getting increasingly comfortable running but swimming remains a cold, bleak and uncomfortable world to me (although I'm slowly working on it, or at least working on a plan to work on it).

Thanks!

Tim

Sounds great, and just before the club champs, I've booked both this training weekend in Bristol and the champs near Battle now. Looking forward to it.

I'm an certainly not a hardcore triathlete, with a 20 year old bike, but I do have some second hand club kit and look forward to tuning up my skills ready for the champs.

I have an estate car which could take 3 with bikes. But to be honest I'd prefer the train with the bikes in a Van, if it works out for people, let the train take the strain...

Booked - looking forward to some hilly cycles (and cream teas...)

Booked!

I've booked on for this too!
