Without a huge amount of experience, I bought a Garmin Fenix 3. It was great for running / cycling but lap swimming was a nightmare and it overcounted or undercounted but upwards of 20% each time. It also doesn't have a built in HRM which was a bit of a pain.
My brother has the Garmin 735XT which he is really impressed with...it's also A LOT smaller and has the built in HRM (read into how accurate those are though). The battery life with HR and GPS on is between 14-15 hours, so I was looking at the updated 935 which is circa 22 hours as well.
I lost my watch a couple of weeks ago and have been looking at the Suunto Spartan, so I'd be interested if anyone has one and would recommend?
Suunto Suunto Suunto !! Im using the Ambit 3, its life changing!! You can chop and change The various exercise screens, The movecount software is really easy to use and you can build training plans in the Movecount App. The user experience side is fab !!
Suunto update the Movecount software for better user experience on a fairly regular basis!! Like a fine wine that just gets better with age!!
excellent price on this one (that every triathlete seems to own!) https://www.sportpursuit.com/catalog/product/view/id/1046998
I love love love my new Garmin 735. with the azure strap. battery life is ~14 hours. it was only £300 on Amazon with a bit of shopping around. great rich functionality and the wrist-mounted hrm.
I'm a Garmin Girl (the one Becky posted), happy to bore you about it at swim tonight.
Thanks all for this. Will look in to it a bit more, although it is a long wait for santa to magically drop one of these down the chimney; they're all more expensive than my laptop!
I use the 910XT...definitely not a sexy watch!! The 920XT is a massive difference :-)

If you're interested in a Garmin but not bothered about having the latest model then there's a great sale on at SportPursuit now, with up to 46% off Garmin 920XT (previous model, not quite as flat or sexy as newest model and uses chest strap for HRM but still a very good watch, esp at this price) https://www.sportpursuit.com/catalog/product/view/id/1073272#.WYKvN...
Also the 910xt is not really a watch. I mean, when I off does't really give you the time that can be useful form time to time
It is more as you cannot use as watch I keep forgetting it in places...
