Great news, Cross Country (XC) is back for a new season.

As with previous years, gender segregation is very important with XC. This means we have both a men's and women's team that run across various locations in Surrey. Races are always on a Saturday afternoon (between 2-4pm) and we need as many runners as possible to ensure we solidify our mid-table positions.

For all you non-competitive people who just like running in the countryside/in fields, competitiveness is not the most important element of XC - in the men's league there are a few people who almost certainly above the age of 75 and we are in Div. 4, the lowest (but most fun) league.

Important dates (confirmed so far)

Men's league

14th October - Wimbledon Common

11th Nov - Epsom Downs

Women's league

14th October - Reigate

11th Nov - Nonsuch park (not a joke, actually a park)

Comment below if interested. All abilities welcome!

Yay! I LOVE cross country! Look at how much fun we had last year, in both hot, and snowy conditions! It's all about the team (and the mud!).

Ahh, just a couple more :-)

Thanks Ben

It is such a relief to discover that the Surrey League continues to protect us from the inevitable risks that would arise if females were permitted to enter our races.

Perhaps this is something Windrush could raise with Parkrun? There would be a lot less congestion at Brockwell parkrun if men and women raced separately.

Tony you are going to get struck off sooner or later!! hysterical.. :)

on a more serious note I can only thoroughly reiterate the above comments.

There is a reason why all the athletes - Mo Farah, Paula Radcliffe etc do XC in the winter. it is great fun and builds huge stamina - Winter miles, Summer smiles.

Does this mean you are joining the men's team Lloyd? I read in the paper you were a running "specialist"....

Haha apparently yes. Although don't believe everything you read in the paper...

But sadly that athletic excellence comes with a long history of membership of about 10 athletics clubs. So, the logistics involved in running XC for Windrush is almost insurmountable sadly :(
On a serious note I saw three primary school girls thrown out of Dulwich pool because it was "Men's hour"

They were 8,10 and 11

I've been swimming in that pool for 30 years and have yet to feel any hint of trouble from a female swimmer.

And despite living in an area in which children are not active enough, the three girls who had been swimming well and seriously were evicted to make way for three middle aged, slightly chubby men
(None of whom objected to the girls carrying on in a lane that was not being used!

This sounds like fun! But I don't think I can make the 11th of November....
I'm in :)
Looking forward to this!
