Claire, Emily and I have just signed up for the Bosphorus cross-continental swim. It's 6km across the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey on 21st July. Sounds like an awesome event with swimmers from all over the world. Considering I only just mastered 2km front crawl I've got a bit of work to do to get up to speed, but excited about the challenge! Let us know if you fancy joining?

It's a balloted event run by the Turkish Olympic Committee but if you want a guaranteed place (like us) you can sign up with SwimTrek: https://www.swimtrek.com/packages/swimming-holiday-bosphorus-cross-...

Deadline is 21st December.

I think a couple of Windrushers have done it before so if you have any questions I'm sure we can find the answers!

Are you going to ask Rory for the best route back? Oh and which inner tubes to pack?

I have signed up!

This is so tempting! I wonder what the water quality is like in this major shipping canal - has anyone done it and could advise?

Woohoo!

Oh!!! I’m so tempted! Sounds so much fun! I think I need to focus on 70.3 for next year though! Im

going to have Fomo the whole time you’re there though!!

Hello everyone!  I used to live in Istanbul and have done this twice - in 2015 and in 2016 - and it's really really great.  I totally recommend it.  It's really well run and a very jolly event with all competitions filing into an Istanbul ferry in their swimsuits to be taken to the start. The standard is quite mixed - some really quick swimmers but a lot of less talented swimmers, so all Windrushers will be in the top half of the pack I am sure. They close the shipping lane and the water is actually remarkably clean (it's fast moving salt water). It's also warm - 21 or 22 degrees - and hardly anyone wears a wetsuit, so get used to training without.  It's 6.5km but very current assisted, so feels more like 3km.  And I can also pass on top tips for great bars and restaurants in Istanbul to celebrate afterwards. You'll have a blast!

And if you don't get a swim trek place, you can enter directly, but need to be online and ready to go when it opens in early Jan. It sells out within a few hours.

Yay...! So glad you signed up

Thanks Louise for your advice

Wahoo! That's great news Christa!

Perhaps we should all get together in the new year to chat about plans, and maybe a practice sea swim?

Will definitely pick your brains about fun stuff to do in Istanbul Louise. Thanks!
