My season starts down in Kent at Sevenoaks on April 29th where I will be getting my black and yellow Trisuit wet for the first time.

I'm not sure how delighted my former team-mates are going to be about that - 7Oaks is to TWTC as CP is to Windrush so there is always a massive contingent entered. However, as I always say they can prove me wrong with their legs.

It's a 400m pool swim, 25k hilly bike and 8.5k lumpy run so it's one where my rubbish swimming least counts against me.

having said that. I've been doing some training with a group up in Mile End on Wednesday mornings and have seen a massive improvement. However, it takes me about 400m to warm up and lose the tiredness in my arms and shoulders.

so, the actual point of this (rambling) post. how do I get the blood flowing and warmed up for a super short swim like this when there's no warm-up lane in the pool? every second is going to count...

tips most welcome please.

You can (and should) warm up on land before swimming but you hardly ever see people doing it before the start of triathlons - the most you will see is some half-hearted sprints before a mass start

This video  is produced by a Sports Physiotherapist though and is focussed on mobilisation

The other thing that might be worth a try is a caffeine laced gel about 15 minutes before the start to kick start your cv system?

Mind in a short race like this you could probably save more time by absolutely nailing your transitions - one of the other coaches beat me in an aquathlon once - even though I swam faster and ran faster - 4.99 for elastic laces was a good investment

When I remember I try to warm up using some resistance bands - like the ones the physios hand out. You can get a good burn on with those.
