Sea Swim Training for Edinburgh Ironman 70.3 - Any ideas?

Hi team,

I think there are a few Windrushers heading to Edinburgh for the Ironman 70.3 on 1st July, as it's a sea swim I wondered if anyone is planning a trip to the seaside for a practice?

It will be my first sea swim so if anyone has any good tips, or knows of a training session or swim I could go to before 1st July, I would love to hear about it.

Thanks!

Zoe

Hi Zoe. I'd be really keen for some sea swim practice before Edinburgh. It's my first race with a sea swim too and I'm finding it quite daunting. I've had a look around but there don't seem to be any organised events that early in the year so I think we'd have to sort something out ourselves. Our swim captain Simon has mentioned organising some trips to the coast, but I don't know how far this has moved on from a chat in the pub!

Hi Claire,

I have done a bit of digging and found this open water swim training in Brighton which they do for groups, and if there's enough of us, it looks quite reasonable.

Hi, I am keen for sea swims and would be more than happy to swim as a group, - this would be an uncoached swim of course - much like a group bike ride.

Can do weekend of the 19th May/20th May if free?

Yep keen and can make that weekend at the moment.

Hi Zoe,

I came across this which might be of interest https://www.britishtriathlon.org/get-involved/education/go-tri-ladi...

I was thinking of trying to persuade people down to Bournemouth on weekend of the 16th of June. It's just about cyclable from London (or a direct 2hr train) and there are lots of nice swims along the coast line or pier to pier.

I am swimming in the sea at Old Felixstowe this Saturday. I was planning on spending Friday night with my sister in Ipswich and catching the train from work, but if other Windrushers are keen I could drive early Saturday morning instead. We would need to leave around 7:45. There is a large group of regulars that swim every Saturday of the year. There are no safety boats or showers, but there are toilets and snacks for sale from a lovely beach hut.

The temperature is currently 10-11. I was hoping it would be warmer by now, but need to get some sea swims in. Many of the swimmers are in skins, but I will be in my wetsuit. Towfloats are recommended.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

I'm keen for some sea swims! 19th/20th May works for me Emily.

Unfortunately I can't to 19/20 May (Grafman aquabike) or the Go Tri weekend (16 June). Is anyone around on Sat 26 or Mon 28 May (bank holiday) or 3/4 June for a trip to the sea? Old Felixstowe sounds like it could be an option - although I'm probably put off by the temperature this weekend.

This sounds great and I am potentially very interested, Margaret- I am waiting to hear if my niece or nephew is going to make an appearance this week up towards that part of the world, if they do, then I will definitely come this Saturday, if they don't I will be happy to do another week.

Thanks Aine, that's brilliant

2/3 June I can definitely do and would be happy to combine it with a bike ride too.

Rosie would that work for you?
