I think we should show our support to the Windrush generation

Hi all

Like many I'm sure you've seen the news and have been appalled at the way the people and the families of the Windrush generation have been treated. There is a fund that has been started to help with the legal costs of those who have been victims of the system issues https://uk.gofundme.com/windrush-justice-fund that it would be cool if we donated even the smallest amount to each, and we should share and talk about 22nd June which is being proposed as National Windrush Day, just a few days before our Triathlon. I think it would be more than symbolic if we as club members were to support those whose collective experience we borrow from as the foundation of our excellent club.

Thanks

Lois

I couldn’t agree more Lois, well said.

Donated

Contractually I cannot express a political opinion publicly one way or the other.

However I do think this is an enlightening article to read - other articles are of course available

I've made a personal donation. Would the club consider making a donation out of the proceeds from the Aquathlon and also perhaps invite those lobbying for National Windrush Day to have an info stand at the event? Perhaps the committee could discuss this?

Hi Lois,

It's not my charity of choice. However, I've read the information & made a donation.

Ticked off my one act of kindness for the day!!

I think an info stand at the event sounds like an excellent idea if we could persuade someone to come along.

More interesting background to the Windrush issue in this article

Hi Charles,

Great idea to get someone down on the day of the Aquathlon to help spread the message. Not sure where to start though, if anyone has contacts within that organisation please let me know and I will drop them a note.

In terms of charity for one the day we are looking to support a local group called young people matter. The organisation is commitment to nurturing the potential of children, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. The details are still being ironed out but I believe the youth in our local areas are key.

Perhaps something that could be done is for the club to contact our local

authority who are promoting the positive contribution the Windrush generation made to our area here.

They ought to be able to support our event and possibly help widen its reach to the local community?
