Our poll suggested 15 July for our annual club ride to Brighton : )
The plan is to head out in several groups depending on how fast you want to go, so we have everything covered from a leisurely pace to those who like like it hot. At Brighton we will reconvene for ice creams, pints and fish and chips, what ever you fancy, and some might take a dip as well.
Return will be via train, unless you fancy cycling 70km back again, as some probably will.
An events sign up will be posted soon.
In the meantime, we will be needing some group leaders to take care of basic wayfinding, so please, if you are in command of map and compass or more advanced technologies such as Garmin, please get in touch with the bike captains Fran and me.
thanks!
Gesine!

Hi Gesine, I'm happy to lead a group at 20-22kph ..... although one way only as I'm planning to roll down to Saltdean Lido after the fish&chips rather than put in another 70km!
Hey WRers,
Hi Erika, sorry for the slow response, many thanks for the offer! Will discuss details closer to the ride.
Looking forward to this. Intrigued about the route, how is it only 70km from Brockwell park?? More like 85km, no? Just curious!
Unless Gesine has a secret plan to jump on a train from Croydon to Redhill, it is more like 90k from Southwark/Lambeth to the sea front in Brighton.
I will be leaving early and going at a steady pace with Haren on the tandem, taking the more rural route via East Grinstead which is slightly longer. I imagine we'll meet at Cadence 8:15 for 8:30am departure, aiming to arrive between 1 and 1:30pm. Anyone else who wants to ride at a gentle pace welcome to join.
Hello Hello,
Hope everyone is still keen for this.
If you would like to help us leading the ride please let me know.
I will share GPX for the route if you don't have one.
Thanks.
Fran
Fran - the GPX would be great - yes please!
Have talked to a few people who would be interested in a part way cycle back and football viewing then jumping on a train...
Have identified a pub with a garden in Haywards Heath (about 16 miles from Brighton) or we could find somewhere near Three Bridges (about 25 miles) and then watch the match there before getting the train back afterwards? I would probably want to email a couple of pubs to check we can keep our bikes somewhere and book a space if possible (but may want to see the outcome of tonight's game first...) although I'm assuming it must be easier to get a space there than in Brixton!
Idea of numbers would be great so reply to this or on the whatsapp group if you're keen!
Hey Phoebe,
The numbers seem bit low so far.
Please sing up here: https://myclubhouse.windrushtri.co.uk/Events/Calendar/View?id=1136
Hi Phoebe
I think this is an excellent plan! As Fran said, it is probably a smaller group riding back and not everyone will be fussed about the football - that said, probably better book today ahead of the game and then cancel if we don't need it. I'm certainly up for it!

I’ve just signed up. I need to do 100k this weekend, there is a slight chance I might take a detour at some point... didn’t see the gps but we are not going busy roads?
Just signed up too! I'll be bringing a costume for a sea dip when we arrive if anyone else fancies it...
Fran, I haven't seen the GPX of the route down to Brighton you are planning. Is it the cross-country one that goes via Lingfield and Newchapel, skirts East Grinstead and passes Plumpton race course before heading west towards Ditchling Beacon? This is the route we have used on previous club rides to Brighton.
Haren and I will be at Cadence at 8am with the tandem and setting off from there at around 8:15am so slightly ahead of the group leaving the lido car park at 8:30am. We will be going quite slowly, averaging around 18-20kph, so if anyone wants to go at this kind of pace you are welcome to join us (best to let me know in advance). Otherwise we'll see you on Brighton beach around 1:30pm. I take it we are going to the usual beach cafe, just west of the main pier?
