ETU Aquabike Championships - Ibiza 2018 - places available

Does anyone else fancy an end-of-season party in Ibiza with a tiny bit of sport representing your country thrown in?

It's the first ever ETU Aquabike Champs and as such there are no pre-qualification slots from prior years. And, given that there is no specific GB qualifying race, BTF are being very pragmatic in what they'll accept by way of submission.

They want details of a >1,500m swim and >80k bike but will accept a 113/226 result [even if the run segment was a DNF], an aquabike , or even separate swim and Sportive results.

It doesn't seem to have been that widely noticed so none of the AG categories even have 20 on the pre-qualifying registration list yet.

I can see a bunch of Windrushers on the list - Oli, Nick F, Raya, Ellie, Colin M (and myself obviously).

Deadline is next week. Anyone without a time can come join me for the Marshman 113 this Sunday (which conveniently also has an Aquabike option] and be sure of placing strongly in AG given what a tiny race it is.

And with the standard only £10 pre-registration fee what's not to like!

How ironic that the only bit that I'm any good at (running) will be the bit left off at my likely first GB representation!

Lol!!!! I’m in and going to be a great few days in Beefa!!!!!!

NZ isn't racing in this one - ETU, but there will be spots in Spain at the ITU in April/May 2019, and in 2018 there was no Kiwi Women in my age group in Aquabike - so have a good chance of getting a spot!

So  you lot check it out in Ibizia and then can join in my hopefully better looking NZ uniform :)

There are also other events you can still enter for Ibiza too - @lloyd maybe an aquathlon too so you can get that run in.. You could use your WR Aquathlon result from last year. I'm planning to do the Aquathlon too.

I'm in! Hopefully for middle distance, if not then Aqua bike and definitely for a pimp Windrush villa

I've signed up for Aquabike. I've no idea what a 'pimp villa' is but if it is full of Windrushers, I am sure it will be fun....

The Aquabike looks exciting especially with no real qualifying needed and I've not raced abroad before. Just out of interest has anyone with racing-abroad-experience got a rough cost for the trip? Taking into account bike box hire/extra luggage costs etc. The race is about £140 right?

These are the costs you could expect:

Race entry around £150-200

Kit around £100

Bike on easyjet plane -extra £80

Bikebox hire - around £70 a week. Or buy your own if you think you'll use it a few times a year. Or there is usually someone you can borrow from in the club/friends..

You also need to think about travelling with the bikebox once you're in ibiza - some transfers also add extra costs..

Flight costs - vary

Accommodation - depends which amazing villa we opt for!

Despite the costs..I can't recommend these races enough, lots of fun and amazing atmosphere and support!

Final reminder. Deadline is today. Still lots of space in the team.

For those interested in coming, and joining in the Windrush villa, we have this Doodle to figure out the most common dates people are planning on being there!

LAST DAY TO PAY FOR THIS TODAY (20 JULY)!

Don't let all your efforts go to waste by forgetting to pay for race entry!
