We have now developed a system where we can store, find and share our favourite cycling routes!

We are using the platform ‘Ride with GPS’ and this is how it works:

  1. Create a free account (or paid account for further functionality)

https://ridewithgps.com/

Finding and downloading files

  1. Go to the ‘find’ tap
  2. In the filter section, select
  • All rides and routes
  • Start within 5km
  • Of SE24 (post code of Brokwell Lido)
  • Key word ‘Windrush’ and then other key directions, such as ‘Hever’, Richmond Park etc.
  • Max length you are looking to ride
  1. Select route you are interested in
  2. Now, there are several options

Depending on your devices you can either straight send it to your device (Garmin Edge) or

  • Click on ‘More’ and select ‘Export as File’
  • Select format
  • Click on download

From here, it is very device depended on what happens next. If I open it in my IPad, Garmin comes up, but this doesn’t work, I go to ‘other’ and open then in Garmin. You can then save it in Garmin connect and edit it to your hearts content.

Uploading files

We like to get a good library and this is where we need you!

When setting up the account, you can automatically pair with a tracking device and the rides will appear in the ‘Rides’ log.

If you have one you would like to share, please

  1. Go to the ‘ride log’ and select the ride
  2. Open it and got to ‘Copy to My Routes’ When prompted for the name, include the name ‘Velolove’ and privacy setting to ‘public’
  3. Edit and put in any description you might like

The bike captains will look at a regular intervals for the 'Velolove' key word and copy new routes to the Windrush account, ensure a start and finish at the Lido and put the word ‘Windrush’ into to title. This way we can ensure quality and consistency, and most importantly, not 32 variations how to get to Windsor!

A few things of note:

    • Only the full web version works as free account, not the app
  • Please DO NOT label routes with the ‘Windrush’ key word

  • It will take a little while until we have a good set of routes established

I will be testing the system for a few months before a refined post goes onto the website. Any glitches or additions to the instructions, please let me know (I’m over 40 and permitted to play the ‘IT is not my friend card’ : ))

And clearly, feel free to browse this awesome website for other people’s fantastic routes!

Many thanks

Gesine
