Club la Santa training camp, Lanzarote Feb 29-March 8 2020

It's that time of year when we are all in full swing with training and races and the thought of a warm-weather early spring training camp is far from our minds BUT Club la Santa is so darned popular as a winter training destination that we absolutely have to book our places there now for a late Feb/early March training camp in 2020.

This is the fourth year that Windrush will be going to Club la Santa for that pre-season training boost when the weather is usually pretty dire in the UK. CLS has professional standard training facilities, including three olympic pools, running track and every kind of class and sporting activity you could imagine. Lanzarote is an excellent place for cycling and running, scenic, quiet roads, not too hot and nearly alway sunny. As those who have been on previous camps can vouch, it is an excellent week's training and a fun holiday. It will be self-coached (ie no formal coaching from WR) but there will be experienced triathletes on the camp who will offer tips and help with any problems, and there are CLS coached training sessions you can sign up for if you want to.

The camp is open to all standards, but suits people with some experience rather than absolute beginners (ie happy to do lengths in Olympic pool, used to riding in a group). The week is run informally and while there will be a main daily Windrush activity (usually focussed on a cycle ride to somewhere in the island), you can organise your time as you want; some people join CLS sessions all day and rejoin the group in the evening.

In order to secure our self catering apartments, those interested need to sign up and pay a £100 deposit in the next two weeks. The cost of the accommodation (which includes access to nearly all the sporting facilities at CLS) will be £389.20 per head based on 4no two-bed apartments, with two sharing each room and one person on the roll-out bed in the living room (five people per apt). The dates secured are Saturday Feb 29 to Sunday March 8 (eight nights). We will have two lanes booked in a pool for morning and/or evening swim sessions for most of those days.

In previous years most people have taken their bikes with them on the plane but due to the fact that the airlines keep jacking up the cost of carrying bike boxes, it is now the same price (and much less hassle) to rent them from CLS or one of the local bike shops.

You will be responsible for booking your own flights and I would encourage everyone to come out on the Easyjet early morning Saturday flight from Gatwick and return on the afternoon flight on the Sunday. This means we can book a CLS transfer bus each way at much lower cost than taking taxis.

Please register your interest below and then PM me to obtain payment details for the deposit. There are twenty places available on a first come, first serve basis.

Wow, instant response.

I will check with CLS to see if there is any chance of booking ten more places so that everyone who has registered interest can go, and also some newbies who may want to go but have not had a chance to look in to it at all before the first slots got snapped up.

That would be so fun if they can!
