I am going to enter us into two fantastic events this summer for the first time.

Assembly League

This is a series of 6 super low-key short blasts on the first Thursday of each month from April to September with distances ranging from 3m to 3.5m. They are free to enter, great fun and everyone always goes to the pub after.

The first and last fixture is always at Beckenham using the clubhouse on Foxgrove lane and is on grass. The others are tarmac and this year include Battersea Park, Victoria Park & Tottenham Marshes.

Beckenham Relays

This is a 3*2.6m road loop around Beckenham place park finishing up that killer hill to the Mansion House. 3 to a team, multiple prizes up for grabs and about 100 teams running. If we get two of our fastest men and 1 of our best ladies we will be in the running for the mixed team award.

This one will see teams travelling up from deepest Kent as well as all over London. there is something about a relay where not only are you running your hardest for yourself but then handing over to a team mate that really builds that buzz and team sprit.

Both series are great fun road racing at its best and so mercifully short that the painful bit (!) is over in no time. Followed of course by several debriefing beers afterwards with new friends and frivals.

And, given Kent / Tonbridge AC involvement, at the sharp end we will actually see even our very fastest runners being dragged to new standards of greatness and athletic prowess!

I'll create events in due course but for now, please keep these evenings free. I cycle to all of them directly from work so they're easily reachable. All races start 19:30 unless indicated otherwise

AL is free, the Beckenham relays only £12 a team.

Sound good :D

Definitely keen. Sounds like a great excuse for weeknight sunshine beers.

What's known as apres-run , Alex. I'm keen

Sounds good - will try and make a few of these.

A little reminder for Assembly League which starts this Thursday.

I will be cycling straight there from Work - need to be in the clubhouse around 6:45 to get registered etc and walk up to the strart for 7:00, start is 7:15 sharp.

Kent AC are there so the standard at the front will give even our fastest a great workout! Pls text me or reply on here to say you’re coming.

do bring something to wear after there are hot showers and food/bar.

I should be good for this mate.

These sound great, can't make tonight (post hol jet lag) but will be there for the May one

A quick summary of a great introduction to the League on Thursday night.

Alex Green and Hugh Stobart both enjoyed a fantastic introduction to great team racing, with a brutal pace all the way round.

the course was a slightly random 2.7 hilly miles in Beckenham Place Park with some tarmac, some grass and some gravel paths. Who remembers those horrible wooden steps from November’s 10k?

Results:

Alex Green P30 16:01

Hugh Stobart P32 16:03

Lloyd Collier P52 16:55 (4th in AG)

Field was 250 strong with the last man home (V70 AG3) in 33mins and the race was won in a scary 14:11 by a Serpentine runner, the top 3 were all under 15 mins.

next road races are Thurs May 2nd at Victoria Park and then the Beckenham Relays on Weds May 26th. I’ll also put up details of a series in Battersea Park run by a group called Sri Chinmoy over 1m, 2m, 5k and 10k and more.

A little reminder. next ones are

Assembly League - Battersea Park 5K. Thursday 7th June.

Sri Chinmoy - regular Monday night 5K/10K in Battersea Park. open to all. cheap. flat. fast. with UKA race licence and official results.

I'll post the ones I'm doing on the running whatsapp group the day prior

Buzzing after last night’s relays in Battersea Park? Want some more ?

the next Assembly League is this Thursday in Victoria Park @ 19:30. A fast flat tarmac 3.5m circuit entirely within the park.

And, it’s Free!
