Saturday 28 July bike ride with a difference

This coming Saturday (July 28) as part of the Prudential Ride London event Wheels for Wellbeing are facilitating a large number of local disabled cyclists taking part in the event.

As part of this they are looking for a couple of cyclists able to pilot a tandem for a visually impaired cyclist on the back.

We are meeting at Blackfriars at 9.30 and should be finished by 1.

It should be fun but if you have taken part in this event before you will know er  it can be a bit busy.

So ideally if you would like to help either you have some experience piloting a tandem or you are a strong experienced cyclist and will be able to pick it up after a few minutes expert tuition (ed: that's not by you Tony is it?)

Anyway it should be great fun and seriously if you are able to cope with a triathlon bike leg you will cope with tandem piloting.

if interested respond to this chain or friend me through this site and let me know how I can contact you.

It will be fun I promise you

Oh and by the way if anyone is interested in sponsoring Haren and Charles' altogether more difficult Pru100 tandem challenge here is the link to their sponsor page:

Hi Tony! How long is the ride? I'm quite interested!

This is the link to the festival Eleonore

The couple - who both need pilots - are visually impaired so the idea is we would ride up into the road closed circuit together. The plan is to meet at 9.30 at Blackfriars.

We need to drop both bikes back at 1pm at Blackfriars.

So the plan is an easy paced ride up into central London and back via St James park (maybe I should have checked they are not megacyclists like Haren but let’s find out on the day eh?)

Let me know if you are still keen and I can email you more details

Hi Tony - if you need someone else I'd be interested in helping out. I've never ridden a tandem before (hoping the pace is slower than Haren and Lloyd on the tandem at the velo session last night - twin turbo!).

Cheers

Colin

Great Colin - if you could also help that would be brilliant.

We are meeting Wheels for Welbeing at 9.15 at the Blackfriars Road end of Ufford Street SE1 8QD.

My plan is to cycle up and leave my bike til we can pick it up at 1pm. Maybe we could both use my bike to follow whoever is piloting the tandem? I’ll bring a multitool to adjust it to fit (its got flat pedals so thats not a problem)? Then we can swap roles to get a break

I doubt our stokers will be putting out the type of wattage Haren and Lloyd would have put out at the Velodrome (if they do it will be a short ride)

See you both Saturday morning

Tony

Great - thanks Tony! See you tomorrow morning.

Looking forwards to it!

Am going for the Orange look this mornings so wont be difficuit to recognise :-)

Thanks Colin and Eleanore

That was fun, especially riding past the UK’s premier institution of higher education eh Eleanore?

And top mechanics skills on the seat post Colin

Good luck at Arundel next week both of you!

Oh and thanks Colin for reminding me about the Dunwich Dynamo - for which I have a return coach ticket.

But am now sitting on the sofa watching the TdF time trial wondering about whether it could be possible to cycle 130 miles to the coast after an Igbo baby naming ceremony (with extra strong export Guinness) .... the answer is probably no so if you (or Eleonore) need a free coach ticket let me know :-)
