Is anyone doing the Dart 10km this year? Hoping to find some training buddies as we move into the summer season. It would also be nice to see a familiar face at the event itself as, having not done anything like this before, I imagine it’s going to be a tough one! Massively looking forward to it anyway. For those who’ve done it in previous years, any advice very welcome!

Thanks,

leanne

Hey Leanne!

I did it a few years ago - was a great experience! There will always be people heading out to Shepperton and Divers Cove throughout the summer. Keep an eye out on the swimming WhatsApp.

From my experience it's just time in the water that counts - so long swims and time in your wetsuit - making sure the suit doesn't rub after more than a hour.

Also try eating - having some gels and taking on water or carb mix in a bottle whilst in the water. There are two feed stations on the route - it's quite odd stopping in the middle of a river to eat.

Hi Leanne

I am doing the dart 10km and so is Olivia. Which day are you doing? We’re doing Sunday.

I think Colin’s right we need to build time up in the water. I did the Jubilee last year which is just under 10km and spent time building up my distance before it. I think doing some lake and maybe a sea swim would be good practice too, i’d be up for teaming up.  Last year I did a  3km swim with Capital Tri at West Reservoir which was a good low key swimming event and good practice http://capitaltri.com/events

are you doing much swimming at the moment?

Hello,

I’m also doing the Sunday and would definitely be up for teaming up for some swims. I’m swimming in the pool and lido at the moment but really want to do some proper outdoor swimming as well. Balancing it with 1/2 marathon training but will be ramping up the swimming in June. Hopefully meet you and Olivia soon. Do you do the Saturday am lido swims?

Leanne

Thanks! Will definitely start spending more time in my wetsuit. I’ve not even thought about eating during the swim so really good tip as well.

Hi Leanne,

Yes usually at the lido on Saturday mornings and now some weekday evenings as it has started it's summer opening hours. I also did the Dart last year - it's great!

If you work in the city, the Victoria Docks are excellent for long swim training as they usually have big loops. I think last year the largest loop was ~1km so much easier than endless lengths in a pool.

See you around soon.
