This three day event held over the second May bank holiday weekend is brilliant for getting stronger on the bike. You start at the same base each day, with loops north to Cheddar Gorge, south to the Jurassic coast and west to Exmoor on the three days. Total distance is 322 miles or 224 miles if you opt for shorter distance rides each day. You can camp near the base village or find a B and B locally. Yes it's hilly, scenic and tough, and the best multi-day cycle event for non-pros in the UK. Deborah and I are thinking of doing it; anyone else interested?

I have always fancied doing this ride, so def interested.

I could be keen to do one of the days, maybe get the train up on Sat and camp then ride Sunday

OK Russ, I'll see if I can find a self-catering cottage near enough to the start. I'll be driving down on the Friday afternoon if you want a lift but will probably go on to Devon to visit friends on Monday evening.

Emily, the Sunday is the Jurassic coast ride, spectacular if the weather is good. The camp site gets very full but if we manage to sort out a place to stay, you may be able to crash there.

This is very tempting....

I have a mate who lives in West Hatch, which is 15 miles to the south west. He has some land which we may be able to camp on. I am sure we could use his facilities too!

That's a possibility Russ. We definitely need to be able to have shower/bath after knackering days on the bike. The camp site near the start is insanely crowded and not a great place to stay. I'll keep hunting for a suitable cottage or B&B but let me know whether your mate is willing or not.

Accommodation for that weekend is pretty scarce near Langport/Somerton for obvious reasons! I've booked a converted medieval barn near Castle Cary for the three nights as a precaution. It has one double bed for lucky Deborah and one twin room, with extra pull-out bed. Total for the three days is £436 (not cheap but seems to be the going rate unless you want to stay somewhere grotty). I can cancel up to thirty days beforehand if we decide on something else.

I also did this a few years ago. It's a tough 3 days of great cycling and I much appreciated having warm and comfortable accommodation to go back to (i.e. not camping!). There were a lot of speedy riders that took part, so we just let then all pass and went our own speed.

Sounds awesome! I'm in :-)

I'm up for camping so long as there are some cosy pubs around, which I'm sure there are! Or if we get enough numbers to make the barn affordable then I'll happily bring a camping mat and sleep on the floor.

Sounds good, I'm in!

Im gonna look at this. May just do one of the days.

I cant make the Saturday as I have friends birthday Party on Friday Night. But I am booked up for one day on the Event Sunday 28th , I will be going down and camping ( Glamping ) during the day on Saturday.

I have a Big Teepee Tent ( I am a glamper not a camper )  & I will be taking the car.  So have room for one maybe two more in the tent + one for the car + Kit + Bike. and coming back probably Sunday Late afternoon.
