Hi team,
I'm looking to gather some stats and marketing content around Windrush 'firsts' this year and what members have been inspired to do as a result of being part of the club. I know there's loads and loads of stories out there of amazing achievements, because we have so many fab and inspirational members, I just need to find them!
So, have you achieved something or overcome a challenge that you may never have even thought of doing months or years ago? Maybe your first triathlon or ironman or GB qualification. Or your first x-number of swim lengths non-stop or first open water swim? Or your first parkrun, 10k or marathon? Did you swim in your first <5 degree lido, or bake your first ever cake?? If so, we'd love to hear about it so please post below (it doesn't matter how small or large you think it is - it's a first!) Better still, if you have the time, tell us a bit about what inspired you to do it.
If you'd rather, please feel free to contact me directly!
Thanks so much,
Ellie

Hello Ellie,
As of last month I'd done my first year of triathlon (did the London sprint last July). Since then first Olympic, first half ironman and first qualifier for GB aqua bike (which unfortunately I can't make). Also first and at the moment only lido bake which suggests I need to do more. Maybe next year will be the first ironman....
Hello Hello,
P
My first’s:
* First open water race (Stoke Newington)
* First 3.8k swim (Lake District)
*First open water triathlon + first middle distance (Costwolds)
*First 2.3 degrees Lido swim (and we have a lovely photo to document this with Matt Curry)
* first ever proper psychological low when doing an endurance event - never before had to convince myself it’s worth it... (Dunwich Dynamo)
All great things because of the great club!
Yup, most things.
The following were all firsts for me this year:
- Olympic tri
- Sprint tri
- Open Water Swim
- Swim with goggles
- Sea swim of any length
- Time Trial
- Spin
- Velodrome visit
- Park Run, and first park run lido swim combo :)
- Track visit (excluding those under duress while at school)
- Use of a roller
- Morning (pre-work) exercise
It's been fun :).
I've had a few firsts this year too:
- first sea swim and first 3km swim (Herne Bay) in wet and windy conditions despite a month of heatwave!
- first London to Brighton cycle on the club ride
- first Velodrome back in April, done a dozen or so since
First time I got promoted into the faster lane at swim!! Full credit to Windrush coaches for this.
First Aquabike (Grafman) and first 3.8km swim race (Derwentwater) and first sea swim (Herne Bay)!
Hi Ellie
my firsts this year were
supporting the club in an ‘official’ role, bike captain
learning to draft in swimming
signed up for an IM
raced on a TT bike
First massive (knee) injury recovery!
First elite race!
First race all on my own!
First Middle/half!
First international honors!
First everything for me, bar swimming!
- First sprint tri - now planning for an Olympic.
- First ParkRun - now well into the whole thing. Even bought some running shorts. Super pro.
- First time doing an open water sea race. Chucked it down. Loads of jellyfish. Loved it.
- First time baking after Saturday swim. Banana loaf in snowy climes.
- First time I've ever been part of a sports club, too. Didn't expect to love it so much.
First time competing in the Windrush Aquathlon :) , first aquabike :) and first rest of the season hampered by injury :(
