TriCamp in Majorca - for Improvers

Are you interested in a week of fun training in a warm climate in April but not sure you can manage all the sessions, feel you might be left behind or want to be stretched in some areas but technically trained in others? Maybe you want to combine training with some relaxation.

Windrush are arranging a trip to Majorca for an improvers week with TriCamp. The improvers week is designed to improve technique, performance and endurance across all distances. TriCamp have world class trainers led by Nick Dunn, who coached 2 of this year's World Age Group gold medallists.  There are sufficient trainers that TriCamp can cater for a wide range of ability so everyone gets what they want from the week. You don't have to take part in all the sessions it's totally flexible. As a Club booking we also have the ability to tailor the agenda to suit our needs. The week will include video swim analysis, open water swimming technique training and guided rides on the best of Majorcan roads.

This event follows on from previous years Windrush has organised training with TriCamp. I am confident in saying everyone has always had a great time. This year TriCamp are based in a Sports Hotel in Paguera in the south west of the island, so a change from the north. Please see the link attached.

The swim training is in a 25m pool 5 minutes’ walk from the hotel and the sea is 100m away for open water training. The mountains are on the door step. The pricing is on the basis of sharing a room but you may be able to have your own room on payment of a supplement. Meals are taken together - a recognised important factor. A table is reserved in the restaurant for Windrush. The food is excellent and varied, catering for all diets.

By popular request the dates are earlier than usual, 8-15th  April. This is returning on the Saturday of Easter weekend so only 4 days annual leave has to be taken for those working.

The price is being held at a discount rate of £599 for Windrush during October. This price is inclusive of all training, accommodation, breakfast, dinner and transfers from the airport in Majorca. Flights are not included. A deposit of £250 is payable by the end of October with the balance due at the end of January 2017.

Places are limited to 18. It's on a first come first served basis and you may bring a friend or partner. Please indicate below if you are interested and pay the deposit to the Windrush Account:

Sort code 09-01-27

Account number 89765696

If you cannot make this week, other options are available to join other groups. Please see the TriCamp website.

The feedback from the Bristol weekend was very positive, also aimed at improvers with a range of ability. No one felt left out.

I'd be interested in this. Where's the link though?

I'm definitely interested, as long as i can get leave signed off for that week.

Hi Erica

This is the link to a link to the Tricamp website

http://www.tricamp.co.uk/

I've been twice and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. Nick is an excellent coach and recruits other really good coaches to help him deliver this week. Tricamp are quite flexible about adapting their programme to meet the demands of people with a wide range of ability and a wide range of target races.

If you have never cycled in Majorca you might wonder why so many cyclists want to go there. But it is a very scenic place to ride, the café stops are a big improvement on the UK (although Nick does not approve of our cake stops), the riding is challenging as there are some significant climbs but you will also notice that Majorcan drivers are not as aggressive and impatient as drivers in Britain. There are also alternative routes if you don't fancy trying to wrestle KOMs from Wiggins et al.

Windrush members did see Wiggins and the Sky team training one year - some of us missed out on that occasion as we were far too fast for the pros to keep up ;-)

If you search the discussions you can find some of the reports on previous Tricamp weeks which gives you some insight into what is involved

Is this different to the discussion Deborah posted yesterday?

thanks Tony, looks good.  If its been good enough for Windrush members in the past, its good enough for me:) what do people do about bikes, is it easy to hire or best to take your own out? I went out a few years ago to majorca when i first started cycling, was slightly scarred by the descents but hopefully i can tackle them better now:)

People tend to bring their own bikes. Obviously you have to book them on board (and it can be quite pricey significantly adding to the cost of the flight). Then you have to get them to the airport - I've done it by train and it involves a significant effort. And finally you have to pack them using a very tough bike box otherwise the airport handlers will not need a second invitation to trash your pride and joy. But if you have your own bike you can hone your bike handling skills more effectively than on a strange bike. And Nick from Tricamp will arrange for transfer of both you and your bike from the airport.

On the other hand you can hire very good quality bikes in Majorca that are very well maintained from specialist shops - Nick from Tricamp can help you arrange the pick up and drop off. In the end there is not much difference in cost between hiring versus transporting your own bike. I would be careful where you hire the bike from though because you wouldn't want to be going down Sa Calobra unless you were very confident the bike had been put together well.

Harry Cole I think hired some good bikes when he was there and could probably give advice if you want to go down that route.

ok think I'm sold on this, do i just pay the deposit or fight with others for places?

This is the same post as I made yesterday. Len has put it on Features

Erica if you pay the deposit you're in.
